We stayed at Ocean Beauty for 10 nights found the hotel to be of a very high standard. We had booked the Ocean Suite room (supposedly the best room in the hotel) which was overlooking the pool area and the ocean located on the 1st floor. The room was of an excellent size with plenty of storage space with a separate single bedroom and a large bathroom with a walk in shower and separate toilet.

Since this was our honeymoon we had booked the love package***

We were greeted to champagne on arrival with an ice bucket & bottle in our room. We done all the activities in the package such as the sunset cruise, dinner on the beech, massage and water sports. All these were fantastic and it’s a very good service the hotel provides which I would recommend to any guests.

The staff were all very attentive and seen to your every need. You really do feel well looked after at all times. The Jewell in the crown in Ashvin, the young waiter. I found his manor and professionalism top class. Nothing was ever a problem for him regardless of it being 7am or 11pm he was always a very friendly and helpful. The other staff are also friendly but they don’t really seem to go out of their way or go the extra yard compared to Ashvin's efforts. Ashvin is a great asset to the hotel and I doubt our stay would have been that extra bit more enjoyable if he were not there!

So why have I not gave the hotel a 5 star review?

As good as the hotel was there were some issues which unfortunately lowers the standard slightly. Here is a few of the issues I had.

1.-There is no walk on beech, just a pool area,to get to the beech(if you can call it that) you have to walk down a dozen or so steps.(the website pictures are taken very, very well to hide this fact)So bear this in mind if stairs will be an issue for you

2.- The ocean room not really worth paying the extra money as you do get a view of the waters but the neighbouring hotel has alot of large trees which in particular block the sunset which was a big disapointment

3.-There are not enough sun loungers in the pool area for all guests at one time, resulting in a few disputes from time to time.

4.- Spaying and chasing Ants and Lizards seem to make a regular appearance in our room every night so get some bug spray...if you dont like Lizards running on the ceiing above you head then be wary!

Some tips if you are staying here.

If you do go for the “dinner on the beech” offer then be prepared to pay over extortionate prices for the wine on offer, no drinks come free with the dinner and the cheapest bottle is about 20EUR* The champagne on the menu they are selling for 35 EUR which you can buy across the road in the supermarket for under 8 EUR!

The food however was fantastic and presented beautifully which just about made up for the ridiculous prices.

Don’t get the hotel transfers to and from the airport, arrange this either before or while there as the hotel doubles the cost for their guests for some reason. This also applies to any day trips that the hotel offers, you can book the same trips in Grand Baie for halfprice so if you are doing a few tours forget booking with the hotel.

We found the senior managements attidude very disapointing and was glad he was not around at he hotel much, he could learn from Asvins mannor and efforts which could only improve the hotel.

We only had problems with the bathroom in the last day regarding the smell, it was starting to smell awful and somehow was becoming infested with Ants.

All in all a good hotel let down by a few little issues here and there. If going back to Mauritius we would not stay here again, mainly due to the lack of beech!

When I first booked this accomodation, I was nervous because the pictures on the website and the reviews were so good, and yet, compared to many Mauritius hotels, it is so cheap. It just seemed too good to be true!
However after returning from Ocean Beauty two days ago, I can confirm it IS outstanding value and everything positive that you read in the other reviews is completely accurate. We had a Garden Suite and if you stay for 7 nights you get the excellent "celebrate love" package for free, and it is definitely worth having. I was expecting a token meal and massage, but these are quality extras - and lots of them. The "standard rooms" are half the size and don't get the extras.

We were met at the airport, whisked to the reception to be greeted by champagne, shown to a beautiful spotless room, decorated with flower petals everywhere, champagne, fruit platter. Breakfast was delivered to the room each morning and was delicious and varied. The complimentary "celebrate love" package was outstanding with a beautiful 6 course dinner, beach massage and countless water activities that we didn't even use. The hotel is quiet and relaxing and perfect for couples. We didn't experience any of the problems with plumbing that other people have mentioned and our room was tastefully decorated and wasn't at all dated in my opinion. Having travelled the world and stayed in some of the best hotels available, this probably ranks as my number one best value hotel.

The only slight negatives from my perspective were : Not enough sun loungers for everyone, resulting in apparent occasional "reservation by towel syndrome" - although some days we were the only people at the pool.

Complimentary snacks and drinks were wonderful - but somewhat random. Luckily the shop over the road was more predictable.

The "private beach" is a bit of a non-event (although seemed good for snorkelling) and the public beach a few yards down gets very crowded with locals and isn't particularly impressive. (Walking a few minutes further north reveals a beautiful quiet stretch of beach however).

Noise insulation between our room and the adjoining room could have been better - especially when they try so hard to be "romantic".

Overall though, and especially given the price, this is outstanding value. Perhaps a bit dead if you have kids or are looking for something lively as the emphasis is strongly on relaxation and romance.

As a vegetarian I found local food pretty uninspiring and there's a limit to how many vegetable curries a man can stand. On the whole it is very cheap though and we also found the Sea Lovers Restaurant a few doors down to be the best of the bunch. [I would personally avoid Paparazi restaurant in Grand Baie - Its vastly expensive and our food was terrible]

You can easily see many of the island sights in one day and hiring a taxi for the day is very cheap - it cost us 1800 rupees for the whole day and you go only where you want, when you want and our driver was flexible, informative and very helpful. The bus to Grand Baie is easy, frequent and cheap at only 10 rupees, but going much further would be a bit of a bus change marathon.

Personally I wasn't a great fan of Perybere or Grand Baie as they both seemed a bit "down market" but I guess it depends upon your expectations. There are plenty of restaurants within minutes walk of the hotel, but none I wanted to go back to! Moving Ocean Beauty to Flic En Flac beach would be perfect !!

This place is a complete misrepresentation of what’s on the pics and definitely not worth any money. The only staff on site are 1 security lady and 1 cleaning lady. No manager, no reception. Nothing.
Yet the place is right on the beach in the prime location of Pereybere.

The strange thing is that when I complained, there was absolutely no surprise or hesitation, nobody tried to explain or apologise. It was as though it were expected that guests may not be happy at Ocean Beauty. Perhaps they were used to dealing with unhappy clients going there.

Exterior: There is a shocking lack of maintenance all round, dirt bags with rubbish greeting you at the entrance, an entrance pool with no water, uncut grass. The sea-facing rooms toward the front look nice from outside but I was not willing to chance it given the overall (lack) of atmosphere and apparent neglect. Looked like it could be quite unhygienic.

Interior: The room I was assigned was a garden room. Very very basic and looked sad inside.

I had booked for 10 nights but did not stay for even half an hour, rather I requested to speak to the owner and see if I could get my money back and move to another location. Fortunately, the owner had another hotel and I managed to get a room there for the remaining 10 nights. This was a slightly better property, Ocean Villa Hotel in Grand Baie.

I subsequently spoke to 2 or 3 locals and they all said that it was well known that the owner of Ocean Beauty was putting zero into the upkeep of the place.

In that case, he should just close it down. Or somebody should. It gives Mauritius hotel industry a bad name. Don’t book it!

For our honeymoon, we spent 3 nights at Ocean-Beauty as part of a 2 weeks stay at the other Sister Hotel Ocean-Villas.

My wife and myself were absolutely fascinated and surprised to find such a small oasis in the heart of Pereybere with direct access to the best beach of Mauritius and with a pool overlooking the Beach of Pereybere.

From the moment we checked-in, we felt completely spoilt. The welcome was very warm and personalised, the rooms well air-conditioned, neat and well designed. The contemporary and very spacious suite had nothing to envy to the best 5 star hotels around.

Every morning, breakfast a la carte was served on our balcony and we spent the day lying next to the pool enjoying the view and the sunset. At night we had dinners organized once on the beach and once next to the pool. We felt very exclusively treated as we were the only couple dining on the beach and had exquisite food and champagne.

One afternoon we even witnessed a wedding organized and this reminded us of our own wedding. How emotional my wife and myself were to see such a beautiful wedding and are already planning to celebrate our 1st anniversary over there.

Seriously, we could not have expected better. Both Ocean Villas and Ocean Beauty lived up to our standard and we would without any doubt recommend these charming family run properties to anyone. What we really liked also was the personal contact with the directors. They really cared for us and that really made the difference!

Ocean Beauty is the perfect name for this resort. This boutique hotel is everything its website describes - the photos are real!

The things I remember most is that the staff were really nice and friendly and seemed genuine - not stuck up at all unlike some 1st class hotels! The rooms and grounds were exceptionally clean. The food was excellent, and there was always a free sunbed! The room was massive - ocearn suite, I loved the comfortable bed, massive bath and shower and music in the bathroom! There were also a few surprises snacks and champagne every other day which added to this retreat. I also got to meet the owner - nice bloke too!

It is a quiet hotel in a small resort. The hotel does not provide evening entertainment and does not yet have a bar (there are plans). The hotel is however in the middle of Perrybere - so supermarket across the road and a good selection of restaurants less than 5 mins walk away. For a bar with a dance floor you would need to go to Grand Baie which cost £4 in a taxi.

I saw lots of couples there and some familys with very young children - both seemed happy. There are watersports available arranged by reception. If you want to go clubbing every night or really enjoy the cheesy entertainment that some hotels provide its probably not for you.

But if you want somewhere clean to stay, great views, a pool, impecible service and enjoy eating out - then this is a great place to stay. I have stayed in hotels all over the world. This is the only one I wish I could pick up and take home!
