... of camping with your own private bathroom and kitchen, and it is amazing! The kitchen and bathroom were cleaned every day. The camp site is walking distance to the beach, which is a big plus! The beach has a tidal pool for easy swimming and perfect for kids. The campsite is well maintained.

Braai areas that a grassed. The furniture and stuff in cabanas are outdated but who cares when beach views are really breath taking.

This is my first experience of camping with your own private bathroom and kitchen, and it is amazing! The kitchen and bathroom were cleaned every day. The camp site is walking distance to the beach, which is a big plus! The beach has a tidal pool for easy swimming and perfect for kids. The campsite is well maintained.

Voetplaat park is quite an easy drive to get out of the busy city of durban. The grounds keeping and overall upkeep of the estate is also quite impressive. On the other hand, the furniture of the cottages are somewhat outdated and carries that old bookshelf smell. Not exactly my cup of tea, might be yours though. The beach also isn't exactly a swimming friendly beach, more of a fishing beach. I have a toddler so my family tried to organize a cot for my baby, but unfortunately the staff was not too friendly and also provided us with a brokenish cot which we didnt end up using, they also charge for the cot (we didn't pay for it because we opted not to use it), so not a baby friendly place. All in all, this place is ok if you just looking to get away from the city. No real up to date entertainment, but again, im more of a modern Xbox PlayStation guy, so table tennis and pool, isn't my thing either. Its not that pricey, so give it a try for yourself if you have some time to kill.

Situated 12 km's south of the village Hibberdene and same distance south from the closest large town, Port Shepstone. It is conveniently situated at about 110 km's from Durban city centre, 60km's from Scottburgh with it's very good beach, +/- 16 km's from towns like Shelley Beach, Uvango and St. Michaels (also a splendid beach at St. Michaels) and abot 25 km's from the ever popular Margate. Shopping can be doen at Shelley Center and the odd movie can be caught here as well.
Belonging to a trade union, Utatu, Voetplaatpark offers the average no-nonsense, no frills holiday maker peace and quiet. It was established by it's members for it's members whom were and still is members or pensioners of Utatu and employees/pensioners of Transnet, Prasa and Bombela. Non-members are welcome but a higher rate is naturaly charged. Definetly not 5* accomodation though. The resort is noramly filled to capacity over school holidays with Easter and Christmas holidays the most required. Chances of getting accomodation in these two periods is a 50/50 chance, you may get place or you may not. During these holidays the management arrange game evenings, etc. Life guards are stationed at the beach to safeguard bathers' safety during holidays. The swimming area in the sea is protected by shark nets and is monitored and managed by the Natal Sharks Board. The chance of Jaws paying a surprise visit is therefor limited to allmost zero.
Angling is done from the beach in the surf or the rocks at the tidal pool. Deeps sea angling can be arranged with one of the nmany companies whom operate in the area. Brochures on this is readily available at reception. The tidal pool from time to time offer kids a close contact with sea creatures. Small fish get caught in the pool during high tide and can be spotted swimming in the pool. This is an ideal place for small children to enjoy themself in save place of protected water.
Accross the main road is another supermarket that can supply in daily needs as well as some other outlets like a hardware and liquor store. Some 2 km south, a couple of outlets can be found at Anerley including a butcher shop. for fresh meat. No feul is immediatly available but a Caltex filling station can be found some 5 km south on the way to Port Shepstone.
The lodging is simple and basic yet tastefull, old but well maintained and offers privacy. The resort is right on the beach with very good security and consist off chalets, cabanas (duplex units) and a very good caravan park. The chalets offer a private BBQ area and a covered parking for two vehicles on the premises next to each chalet. The cabanas has communial BBQ's and parking is limited to one vehicle under cover. The same apply to the caravan stands as far as BBQ facilities are concerned. No cioverd parking though. Some stands have a private ablution block and are very popular among campers. All equipment is supplied in both the cabanas and the chalets. From bedding to cutlery. Towels and dishwashing cloths are not supplied though. Visistors must bring their own, unfortunately. Accomodation are serviced on a daily basis except Sundays. Two coin operated laundry facilities are available on the premises and is a bonus for long stays. A large swimming pool is open to all geusts. AQ games room is available and on request. Mini golf is available at a small donation.
Access can only be gained with an access card obtained on registering on arrival. The resort is therefor very safe and secure. The same access card will alow one access to the beach from the resort as pedestrian gates are installed in the fencing to make the beach more accessable for geusts.
Stary cats are in abundance. The managemt do not complain or issue warnings if one feed these poor creatures but will rather advise geusts to refrain from doing so as these animals can become a nuicanse. They do not enter the accomodation though for some reason. Beside cats there is monkeys that visit often. These little chaps can be dangerous when provoked, so, stay safe and leave them alone. Be sure to keep your doors closed when they are around. They tend to enter the buildings in search of food and can cause a lot of damage.
It is a good idea to bring along aenough reading material if one plan just to laze away. The resort as indicated is somewhat remote and being without your own transport come be problamatic as no public transport is available. Trains transport only freight on this line..
The resort have a restaurant and take away on the premises that can supply in the daily basic needs of the holiday maker. A pub is also on the premises and can be noisy over weekends. Beside that bit of negativety, the other down pointer is the railway line that run next to the resort. Trains can cause a lot of noise, specialy at night time. I noticed that train drivers tend to "close the throttle" once they near the resort and the noise is somewhat dampend. I asume it is out of respect for their fellow colleagues whom might be on holiday and to disturb them the least way possible.
Worth a visit when on route to the Eastern Cape or from the Eastern Cape to the north of KZN or just a money saving holiday with the basics in mind.
