It's my first time at Hotel R - I seem to get a different hotel I'm in Paris, which happens more times per month than I ever thought it would - but it's been pleasant. I'd say that the rooms are above standard for most hotels in this range (I've tried at least 5 so far this year). I'm in a smaller room this time, trying a superior room in a couple of weeks. Anyway, it's clean, well decorated, very modern, and the bathroom is quite nice (except for the fact it has a tub and not a shower - why? why would you do that in 2020...) I haven't had breakfast but the dining room looks very nice. I'll try tomorrow for some drinks. Reception was very good, the gentleman when I arrived was charming and efficient. So why not 5 stars? Two reasons. The internet is absolutely atrocious (again for 2020). It's the worst I've experienced in Paris, tonight barely getting above the 5Mb download (never mind the upload). I haven't been able to get a good FaceTime connection, but even reading the DailyMail is painful (isn't it always?) Second problem is the cooling/heating in the rooms. The controls are blocked from the front desk and are in "heating" mode. That means, unfortunately, that the room is stuck at 23 degrees in full winter. I've had to open the window even after asking the front desk to turn off the heating. Yes, it's strange, I'd like to cool my room to 19 degrees... not unreasonable in winter. Anyway, the other nice, comparable hotel I stayed at last week had no objection to me cranking up the AC to achieve that goal (not my fault they over-heat all the rooms...) So based on that, I'll come back one more time, but probably book elsewhere in April (unless someone reads this and (a) fixes the internet and (b) removes the block on cooling).

Dear Robert, Thank you for taking the time to share your review on TripAdvisor. Guest feedback, good or bad is always constructive and helps us to become better and grow as a team. Here at Hotel R, we understand the importance of comfort and we do our best to ensure this for each individual guest. Unforutnately, you don't seem to be quite comfortable with us. We are very sorry to read this. You are currently staying in our only classic room on the 6th and final floor of our establishment. This is, in fact, one of only two rooms out of forty equipped with a bathtub. This bathtub has also an Italian style shower-head and small shower-hose also. We understand that this may not be to your taste, be assured however, that some guests do enjoy the jacuzzi style bathtub and this is quite often requested. We do apologise for the Wi-Fi issues. This, we can assure you, does not happen often. We are pleased to inform you that we have contacted our operator first thing this morning and everything should be in order now. As it is the middle of winter in Paris we are, like most buildings in "heating-mode". Unfortunately, this cannot be modified right now. Most guests are still asking for heating in their rooms and to change one room, we must change the whole floor. At the moment, the heating requests outweigh the AC ones. What we could suggest is a room change, seeing as you are still with us for two nights. We will email you personally with this offer. Please remember that we are here to find solutions and are available day or night, 24/7. I will personally be available all day today and would love to hear your feedback in person. Kind regards, Fiona Front Desk
