We have just returned from a 3 day break at the Hotel Marceau and it did NOT disappoint. It isn't much to look at from out the front but once inside it is the most charming parisienne home. Very homely and welcoming with staff to match. Every member of staff wa pleasant and accommodating and helpful. We particularly interacted with the staff in the breakfast room, which is just adorable, small and homely and the food is absolutely perfect. Not great if you want a hot breakfast as the bacon is more of a ham and the sausage is more of a hot dog sausage. The pastries, cereals, coffee , juice and cheese and fruit are delicious and it really sets you up for a very long day sightseeing in Paris. The hotel is around a 15 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower and about the same in the opposite direction is the Arc De Triomphe. Definitely get yourself a 48 hour for the Bato Bus on the river as this is a continuous hop on and hop off tour which stops at 9 different iconic sites. We paid 29 euros for one adult and one child for 48 hours, brilliant value. The room was very small and adequate as we only had 2 people in the room. It was spotlessly clean and the cleaners were very friendly also. The air conditioning was really good for hot nights. HUGE thanks to Adonis, the receptionist for being such a great guy, friendly and welcoming and really is an assett to the hotel as we really felt totally at home. We will definitely return to this hotel, one of the best hotels I've stayed in because of its incredible homely feel. Bring good footwear because Paris is a sightseeing wonder.

Where do I begin?

When I arrived, I did arrive a bit early, around noon. The lady behind the desk said she didn’t know if they had a room since “you arrived early”. I told her I was fine to wait if they could hold my bags and I could go eat and walk around until a room was available. I’m pretty easy, I said and I know that I arrived early.

Throughout the stay, they changed desk people it seemed like every 6 hours. Some of the staff was great and would help me with my French. Sometimes you would find them sitting in the lobby area talking on their phones and when you asked a question, you could tell their phone call was more important than their guests.

One guy was very nice and even though my French isn’t all that great and his English was like my French, he was always helpful and smiled a lot and would help me with my pronunciation and with giving me direction.

Two other guys, not so much. When I was leaving, I asked the guy for a taxi and he told me because the taxi service was busy, I needed to go outside with my 3 pieces of luggage and wave one down?

I’m sorry, but that is rude and he wasn’t busy at the time.

You could tell he was mad at me for asking him again and letting him know I’m not going to go outside and walk up and down the sidewalk with 3 suitcases in tow.

The lady from the first night showed up and either her or another guy had found me a taxi. I told the other guy outside that I had asked the man before going to bed was it easy to get a taxi and he said yes. He also could have asked what time I wanted to leave and he could have made arrangements, I found out from the man outside, but that was not offered at all.

The location was great, but the lack of attention from most of the staff was subpar. At least there was one person there that made it a little enjoyable!

Dear sir, We thank for your comment on the hotel Marceau Champs Elysées ! It is a pity you never mentioned that it was your 50th birthday, We will be happy to get you surprised. I am the person who helped you to find a taxi outside. The fact is that sometimes it is very difficult to find a Taxi in Paris and the only way to try to catch one quickly is to hail it directly in the street. That’s what we explain to our guests. When we can’t do it ourselves, we ask them to leave their luggage at the hotel and to stand in front of the hotel in the street while we are keeping on trying to book a cab over the phone. We are very concern about the welcome of our guest and we are then very sorry for the lack of attention that has been given to you. During your stay we have to ask urgently for a temporary employee. It seems he had an inappropriate behavior; we truly apologize for that. The whole team really do his best to welcome our guest as demonstrated by most comments. If you plan to come again in Paris do not hesitate to contact us directly, we would be happy to make you forget about this unpleasant moment. Best Regards,

This is a wonderful old boutique type hotel, with a wonderful location. A 5 minute walk up the street takes you to the Arc the Triomphe and the Champs d'Elysee, while a 5 minute walk down the street and you are in the heart of the fashion district (or so it would seem!) and at the Seine River. This time we never needed to take a metro, we just walked. We stayed on the 4th floor and I was expecting the room to be small based on prior reviews. That it was, but with beautiful windows that opened onto the street with a Juliette balcony made it fun to watch the 'goings on'! The bathroom was a good size with some modern upgrades and heated towel rack that we weren't able to figure out how to turn off... so it was hot towels day and night! The breakfast room was bright, with a great assortment of baked goods, cured meats and cheeses, eggs, juices, coffee and tea, and I sure many other things that I missed.

I love this hotel - I stayed for a week or so five years ago for work, and was amazed to be recognised by Adonis as I walked in, even after so long. Hotel is excellent - while the rooms are a little small, they've been designed and stylishly decorated to make the most of the space available. Very clean, good breakfast in peaceful breakfast room, pleasant staff - and Adonis, who is so helpful, efficient and charming. The night manager is also very good. Hotel is very well located between two metro lines, making it very easy to get around Paris.
