Standard rooms are in terrible conditions. Best place for your reservations turning into ghost ones. You make a reservation a month beforehand and when you arrive to check-in they don't even know who you are "supposedly". Travelers be aware, don't waste your time... they don't care about your budget and plans. Very irresponsable people!!!
First day at check in was great. My companion and I were given a room on ground floor and we were not quiet satisfied, the stay changed the room without any questions.
The resturant staff is very accommodating. Good variety of fresh sea food.
Very spacious gym. Almost every type of work out equipment can be found at the gym.
Spacious pool. Both for kids and adults.
Karaoke club on sight.
I was given a room. I wasn't happy too much construction and remodeling going on. I requested a refund they refused since I paid with credit card. I told the woman that should have been told to me before I gotten the room that there were noise and no wiifii. She talked to the manager and I was given a suit for two days. Big bed room is ok .not bad for an old hotel.but to me this suit should only worth 53.00 per night what I paid the other room. I only came because I wanted to use the weight room but after going inside and not a drop of air. It's disgusting.
My husband and I stayed a couple weeks ago at La Casona Dorada, as part of our 1-week getaway to Santo Domingo, visiting family and friends. Have to say that, despite the inconvenience of the hotel being a bit of a dusty mess due to a massive renovation taking place in it, our experience was, overall, very pleasant.
The room we stayed in was spacious, with a fairly comfy bed and an A/C (a must, considering the tropical weather!!); a nice bathroom with a shower and hot water; the pool, despite it looking quite tempting and well-maintained, we never used it due to being busy with other activities all around; the staff was warm, very welcoming and attentive to our needs (whenever we requested something, they'd always do it for us. And I guess the fact that my husband is Dominican-born-and-raised might've helped a bit extra). I didn't care much for the fact that the parking space available was kind of scarce because: #1, we weren't driving (sorry, haven't gotten used to Dominican driving!!), and #2, it had something to do with the construction. But if I had an objection, it would be the breakfast: it was ok for the price paid, but it did bothered me a bit that it wasn't too diverse and that it was always cold by the time my husband and/or I were able to go to the dining room for it (it always helps to keep food warm for the duration of the time it'll be offered). Other than that minor quip, everything went as expected. I will definitely consider returning to La Casona whenever we go back. Gracias por todo.
Was in the Santo Domingo for the weekend. Chose this place because of location and modest price. I'm partial to the Gazcue section and this place is right off the corner of Ave Independencia!
This place has always seem to be an enigma, because the location is great! Yet, not well regarded or reviewed! Perhaps because of a haunting bad review from years ago!!!
Hotel is fairly big. Staff is so-so and perhaps in need of customer service training! They're not bad but lack enthusiasm. My room was on the newer side. Small, but clean with well fuctioning a/c and refrigerator and antiquated room safe! Good wi-fi! The door locks seem to be ancient and initially difficult to manuever!
My only gripe was the bed was too small and it was wedged between two nitetables! One turnover in bed during sleep guarantees contact with an end table! So sleep stationary!
For the hotel to "Include free breakfast" as a perk to your stay is insulting! It is sooo unappealing it dissuades you from ever attempting to eat anything else at the Hotel!! They allegedly have a restaurant there! Plus, my favorite eatery "Villa Hermanos" is literally one block away!
If you are on a budget, This is the place to stay. Jaragua casino (when reopened) about 3 blocks away. Zona Colonial about 15 min walk. Adult clubs 1 block away! Manolo's restaurant 3 blks!
Hadn't been in this area for 6 yrs and the street climate at nite seems to be a little more scarier (or i have grown older and more paranoid) So any walk at night, solo, longer than 2 blocks. i would say unadvisable!
Overall a good place for a short stay!
