I stayed at Hostal Corazon for a month and I always felt secure and comfortable!
- Great service. Staff was readily available for help. Julia was like my house mom and I will definitely miss her.
- Clean. Staff is always cleaning the house and your room is always cleaned every 3 days.
- Good location to bars/restaurants or to take taxi collectivo to Old Havana.
- Noisy because right next to big streets
- No dinner service. I was disappointed to hear there was no dinner service upon arrival because the website stated so. Their website is outdated so before you expect any service listed on the website make sure to confirm with Luis beforehand.
Staying with Luiz and his family was the single best thing we did to have a great experience in Cuba because they were our introduction to the island. Someone was right there to meet us. Luiz showed us around the neighborhood once we got settled and helped us get CUC converted. It doesn't matter what different needs your trip has, I'm confident Luiz will help you. We took breakfast with Luiz, Yessy, Julia and with new acquaintances from Brazil, Argentina, Czechoslovakia. The entire week we were there, there were other guests to talk with. Breakfast opened the door for so much learning about each other, the cultures and catching up about the day before. The other thing we enjoyed about Hostal Vedado is coming back tired, sitting in the rocking chair and talking to Julia or watching TV or one day, dancing all together in the living room and laughing. Vedado is a distance from Old Havana. You have to consider transportation - bus, taxi, walking. We walked alot. I recommend this to staying in the more touristy area because it's much more quiet to come 'home' to and settled and still plenty to do. Business dealings are fair and straightforward. This is a top casa particular in Vedado in my book!
The location is very good, a short walk from good jazz place for the night: La zorra y el Cuervo. Also close to Hotel Nacional, Coppelia and Malecon. It's also possible to walk to Habana Vieja in a 30 minutes walk, but the taxis are also really cheap. You can find good options of cheap restaurants and drinks close.
The room was very clean and also safe. Luis and his family are nice and always ready to give you good suggestions of what to do/see.
He also has the option of transfer from/to airport. The breakfast is simple but good.
We would definitely stay there again.
I had the pleasure of staying hear for nearly a month while taking a course at the University of Havana. The location is fantastic, and the room I stayed in was very large, totally renovated, and decorated with art-deco style furniture (in keeping with the style of the building itself, which is one of a handful of American influenced art-deco style buildings in Havana). I should also add, the bed in this room was the MOST comfortable bed I slept in while in Cuba. Incredibly comfortable. I LOVED that bed. I did stay in several nice hotels as well as other casas while traveling in other areas...and the other beds were not nearly as comfortable as this one. Some other places I stayed had downright painful beds. (A good mattress in Cuba is hard to find.) The room I stayed in also had a door that accessed a very large shared balcony that overlooks La Avenida de Los Presidentes--as well as a small fridge, and a private bath (also totally renovated).
Luis, the "dueno" of the casa, explained that he has been doing all the renovations himself, and he's done an amazing job.
I saw the other two rooms available at the casa, and one was very much like mine: immaculate, large, well-furnished in the art-deco style, also with a private bath. The third room they have is a much smaller room, also with a private bath--but he has not yet completed the renovations in that bathroom yet. I stayed in the third smaller room as well (after I returned from travels outside of Havana), and it was a perfectly fine room: the bathroom was in working order, the bed was very comfortable, but it wasn't as lovely or as large as the other two (though it is a bit cheaper).
They are an incredibly kind and welcoming family. Yessi, Luis's girlfriend, goes out of her way for all the guests there. She is a very genuine and bright spirit, and a wonderful cook. Natalie, Luis's daughter is 14, and bright and curious, and very much wanting to master English (so speak English with her if that's your native tongue). And Luis is happy to assist you with anything and everything you might want (restaurants, tours, travel outside).
In short, they are all very kind, warm, and accommodating.
For a long term visitor like myself, it was the perfect place. I couldn't have been happier. I highly, highly recommend this casa. It's only been around for a few months, but I suspect it will quickly become a very popular desitination. Vedado is in thick of everything, but a little more relaxed then Central and Old Habana. I also recommend this location very strongly. You're in walking distance of La Rampa, La Plaza de Revolution, Habana Universoty, the Malecon, and much more.
Stayed in this casa particular for two nights in December while on holiday in Cuba. Louis made us most welcome and we were able to share the balcony with his friends and the other guests. Breakfast are the continental variety and can be served either on the balcony or the dining room. The accommodation is situated in an central location. Thanks to all for a chance to see the real Cuba.
