Our whole group of 10 had the place to ourselves. Unfortunately we missed the evening safari due to the rain that they had the days before we got there. We had a quick tour of the lodge before our guide left. We unfortunately got there pretty late and had to run to the local grocery store for food. The store of course was a bit away. Some rooms had broken air conditioners which they told us were checked that day and no one to fix them of course. We made due with ceiling fans, which didn't help because no windows were to be left open because the guide told us not to if you didn't want unwanted guests (snakes, bugs, etc.) The bugs were huge to Canadian standards. Two end rooms had an extra opening and quite a large gap under the door. My suggestion, put a blanket in the gap. Two of our group had scorpions in their room and another very large bugs. We had a great dinner that evening made by the staff and after a great camp fire. We were all alone for the evening. The rooms were beautiful and clean. Don't be too sad if you go on the safari and don't see too much. We did see many animals, especially giraffe, kudu, impala and zebra, ostrich. We missed the lions by a few days. Below our lodge we did see a rhino at the watering hole and the best was the elephants at 9:00am walking past the lodge. You have to go to the elephant station to interact and feed them. It was worth it.
Had the most wonderful stay here in a party of 12 (couples and family members included). Definitely recommend going to the elephant interaction too - Rachel, Rambo and Jambulani were a real treat! After two lengthy safari rides, viewing the most beautiful animals, you were able to relax by the fire in the evening in a truly stunning setting. The room I stayed in with my boyfriend was one of the nicest rooms I've ever stayed in. Stunning. Staff were also super friendly and informative! Overall amazing stay, one to remember.
Bayete Zulu is definitely one of the best game reserves I've been visiting so far. The lodge is located on a hill, the deck and the small pool overseeing the whole valley. The view from them is astonishing. Elephants passed by in front of us. Besides the heigth guarantees less humidity and way less bugs than down in the valley (I got the evidence comparing two lodges in the same day). Rooms are lovely and perfectly set in each detail, including a private part of the deck with table and chairs. Open living room with sat tv and tables in the shadows provide a great location where relax and enjoy food and friends. The guide was excellent and very friendly, we easily spotted most of the animals including lions and rhinos. Great stay, amazing KwaZulu-Natal!
We went with four families (19 people in all) for three nights and four days. We booked out the entire camp which has about 10 rooms. Each room is en suite with Aircon. Rooms are serviced daily. This is self catering except that the lodge kitchen staff did all the cooking and clearing up afterwards! Best of both worlds. This allowed us to come and go as we pleased. We had great game sightings and the elephant interaction is not to be missed. Not the luxury of those high-end speciality lodges like Mkuze Falls Private Game Reserve or Phinda, but honestly not far off those. We had two dedicated rangers who took us for morning and evening game drives. Our friends from the UK thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it was an opportunity for them to unwind and relax in the bush veld. I recommend this lodge for this type of visit.
After nearly 10yrs together we finally tied the knot at Bayete Zulu. We originally visited Bayete for the elephant interaction and when we saw it we knew it was the place where we wanted to get married.
The staff were amazingly accommodating and went out of the way over the weekend to look after us and our guests. When we were there we didn't find the rooms tired or unloved. It should be noted that this is self catering accommodation so don't expect room service but if you bring the food the ladies in the kitchen will look after you!
