The hotel has a wonderful colonial feel. We stayed in a king suite. These are newish.
The suites have their own patio plus sitting room and a fire.
The good points include a wonderful veranda where breakfast was served. The breakfasts are wonderful, fresh and delicious. The produce is of a good quality.
The hotel bar is great with huge choice of gin and other spirits. Great for a night cap.
We did not get to use the pool. But the beds look comfortable and there were umbrellas for shade.
The only constructive criticism I would offer - the carpets in the King Suite we stayed in - No1 - do need a clean and refresh.
Would stay again.
First of all the staff is very kind. we go there quite often and are always welcomed by the staff members. The hotel's rooms and pool facilities are pristine and always looked after. If you are missing anything from your room like a towel or a pillow, the housing staff will always help.
The food at the hotel is amazing. At different times of the year the food fits well with the time of the year. The chef always caters to the needed of people who might have dietary needs such as gluten free or sugar free.
A truly fabulous, old world hotel. It was relaxed and service was great and friendly. The room, one of the garden rooms, was reminiscent of a 1940s movie set in Africa. It was large comfortable and airy, with your own veranda looking out at the hills.
The food and wine were delicious. The breakfasts were especially good. Had a good fun day around the pool, with a regular supply of drinks. Bliss, all made so much better by the lovely staff, who could not do enough for you. Must try one of the barman's pink gins sitting on the veranda. Sublime.
This hotel is the perfect romantic location. Rooms are spacious with lovely patios. Multiple communal relaxation areas tastefully decorated both inside and out. The pool area is excellent and the views are tremendous. The gin and tonics are epic and the verandah is the perfect place to sip one whilst watching the world go by. The village has a good number of restaurants, shops and galleries, slightly rustic, perhaps how Franschhoek was a few years ago.
Locally there are a number of excellent vineyards to visit as well as olive centres so plenty to see in the area.
My wife and I have been coming to The Royal Hotel for several years but have never stayed over. On Saturday, we spent the night in one of their new suites added 10 months ago. The room is well-equipped with luxuries including 2 TV's, a Nespresso machine and heated towel rails. The Royal Hotel offers Victorian-era charm with modern amenities and friendly staff that make you feel at home. They serve up a great G&T on their stretch balcony too! Highly recommend this hotel for weekend getaways, wedding guest accommodation and anything in between. The pool is awesome too! Guests should book early and respect the water restrictions (no bathing) currently in place as it's located in a drought region.
