From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome it felt like home even though we had never been there before. The front of house staff were warm and friendly there was nothing that was too much effort for them to do. The rooms are amazing and maintained daily by a team of amazing woman. The grounds are a pleasure to stroll through or spend time in the pool with family and friends. Mafigeni is a dream venue for a family or friends who want to experience the true essence of South Africa..We will be back in 2020.
Mafigeni is a little paradise and ideal place to get rid of stress, and enjoy time with loved ones. Although we only arrived in the afternoon, we had enough time to spend quality time at the pool and dining area where we had top quality food, and stayed for an amazing breakfast the next morning. The chalets has a romantic/relaxing/cozy/homey feeling to it, with a shower with an amazing view. Would definitely recommend staying here.
Our family had a wonderful 10 days at Mafigeni. The staff, dining, laundry service, etc. were excellent. The location allowed us to visit several animal rehab areas outside of Hoedspruit, God's Window, Kings Walden Garden, Kaross Embroidery, Vervet Monkey Foundation and more, all on day trips. We had our own vehicle for these, but enjoyed game drives on the Mafigeni property, which were provided.
The pool is small, but lovely, however, we were too busy to enjoy it. We viewed, ostrich, various antelope, giraffe, Cape buffalo, wildebeast, and many bird varieties. I would recommend this lodge for families or couples since the lodging is in separate bungalows. The staff is very welcoming and will tailor activities for you.
I am responding to the review left by Jckruger. Mafigeni Lodge is a very personalised lodge, and I'm surprised that it is stated that "when you arrive so called unexpected, you are left unwelcomed." Mr Kruger was never left unwelcomed, in fact, after checking in, he was personally addressed by the owner of the lodge, who welcomed the couple and invited them to relax and make themselves at home. Furthermore, staff went out of their way to appeal to the couple to join the other guests for dinner, instead of remaining holed up in their room. Special arrangements were made by management for a private and romantic bush dinner, as well as a complimentary game drive for the guests, but unfortunately they had left some time during the night/early hours of the morning without announcing their departure and were not able to take advantage of the offer. Rooms are checked and cleaned daily and definately do not smell stale and are not dusty. Perhaps the guest mistook the smell of persian carpets and a thatch grass roof as a stale and dusty room? Mafigeni staff are all highly attentive to all guests at the lodge and there are many activities offered on the premises, including horse riding, game drives, guided nature walks, fishing, target shooting, clay shooting, use of the pool, to name but a few. If Mr and Mrs Kruger had stayed longer than 12 hours, they would have experienced a memorable stay and not the inaccurate account as they have published.
