I stayed with a friend. The room was very good , with an excellent shower and a comfortable bed, the host helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble and it was excellent value for money. What more could you ask for?
My friend and I stayed at the Wellington this weekend on our cycling trip , the Trans Pennine Trail . Alan and Sue gave us a really warm welcome and we were especially grateful for the effort they had gone to to accommodate our dietary needs (vegan and veggie) The breakfast they concocted was delicious and just the fuel we needed . They were also happy to store our bikes and the room was clean and comfortable. Highly recommended!
Newly painted but bedroom still damp in corner.
Shower was good but little room in or out of shower, good radiator in my room.
Bed was ok but a bit soft for me.
The room stunk of cigarettes smoke for the two days I was staying there, I Suspect it was coming from the owners room below.
Breakfast was not till 7.30 which was late for us as needed to be at work by 8.00 so just cereal and toast for us.
I think the price we paid ( about £72 ) was
To much for what we got.
decaf sachet of Coffee in room.
Room was not cleaned or entered during our stay as dirty tea cup in room from first morning upon my return.
We stayed in a beautifully and recently recently renovated room which was let down badly by one thing. The bathroom smelt like an ashtray. The proprietor was a gruff man, who I imagine might give a poor impression, but he was actually nice. He said he had no sense of smell. I pointed out that his guests did have and it was a shame that his tasteful renovation was being let down by the smell. That if he wanted good reviews he really had to work to get rid of it. I think the smell was actually embedded in the walls of the hotel and was seeping through. We closed the bathroom door and the smell was sufficiently attenuated to not be noticeable. I'll be interested to check back here in the future and see if the reviews still mention the smell. Breakfast was "d'you wanta cooked breakfast?" so be prepared with an idea of what you want!
Unfortunately, new owners have somewhat ruined this place. Two reasons, 1 - The menu has changed, food is poor quality and is now presented on a cheap plastic triangle with a chain-like fast food options. Why change something that didn’t need it? 2 - The owners have just let the place slip. Background music has been turned off (needed even more so now the place is dead), the staff are rude and unwelcoming, cleanliness has gone downhill and even small things like the back room which has become an office is a tip and doors are left open?
Don’t bother, at least not until they’ve done something with it.
