Madison S's City Tips

  • When eating out in Anaheim, it is typical to tip 15-20% to your server, and taxes on meals may account for up to 1.5% of your total bill.
  • Peak time to visit Anaheim is from June to August: attractions will be fullest then, and lines at their longest.
  • If you are visiting the Disney parks, be aware that in addition to FASTPASS, Single Rider passes allow you to move through lines more quickly — but you do have to ride on your own.
  • Anaheim's biggest attractions (its theme parks) require at least a day each if you expect to do them justice. This guide includes parks where you can spend a full day, plus an alternative day's itinerary should you skip the roller coasters altogether.

The iconic, original Disneyland Park has been entertaining visitors for more than 50 years. With rides and roller coasters, shops and street performers, restaurants, candy shops, cafes, and more, Disneyland has something for everyone. Character meet-n-greets, parades, and firework shows give the park its Disney touch, while themed areas from the Wild West to futuristic Tomorrowland tempt the imaginations of children and adults alike.

    Tips
    • Use the free FASTPASS option to optimize your visit — it allows you to sign up for for specific times on popular rides, which grants faster access during your time slot.
    • Check ahead for Disney's hours, as they change seasonally, sometimes depending on the day of the week.
    • Given ticket prices and how much there is to do at Disneyland, the park usually requires at least a full day to visit.
    • There are plenty of food options within the park, but if you have the time, it's often cheaper to head outside at meal time.

Fantasmic is Disneyland Park's nighttime extravaganza. The show employs a daring use of lights, fire, sound, and pageantry to bring to life its most fabled characters. Floats, mechanical dragons, and fireworks help to bring the action to life in a colorful and exciting parade of Disney characters.

    Tips
    • Get in line up to an hour (or more) in advance if you want to nab one of the best viewing spots. Be aware that park workers will ask you to move if your seat obstructs a walking path.
    • FASTPASS for shows like Fantasmic (as well as World of Color and Frozen Meet 'n' Greet) do not count in your quota for rides. You can hold one ride and one show FASTPASS at a time.
    • If you choose not to view Fantasmic during your trip, it's helpful to note that rides tend to have shorter lines before and during the show.

Located right beside Disneyland Park, Disney's California Adventure is themed around the history, landscape, and culture of the Golden State. Opened in 2001, it feature boardwalks and vistas that are packed with interactive games and thrilling roller coasters. With unique attractions like Cars Land and Buena Vista Street, this Disney sibling has all of the technology of a modern theme park with all the charm of the past, including creameries, trollies, ferris wheels, and grottos.

The Anaheim Packing District is a historic, enchanting part of town. Divided into three parts, it includes the Packard Building, Farmers Park, and Packing House, all 1920s commercial spaces that have been beautifully refurbished. The Packard Building houses the local Anaheim Brewery and the trendy Umami Burger restaurant, while the old Packing House opens early for breakfast and stays awake late into the night for drinks. Farmer's Park, the gem of the district, is home to two acres of parkland — with a boardwalk, gardens, and an olive grove, as well as event spaces, a Sunday farmer's market, outdoor movies, and parades. There is always something fresh to eat and fun to do at the Anaheim Packing District.
