Although I grew up in Johannesburg, I have been living in Cape Town since 2010. I live to travel and do so as often as I can. I absolutely love an island destination, but big cities fascinate me too. When I travel, I love to explore a new culture and destination through food. The one place my heart always years for is Mozambique - African tropical paradise!
Voted South Africa’s top restaurant several years running, The Test Kitchen is the number one must-eat spot on every foodie’s list. Chef Luke Dale Roberts has become a celebrity in his own right and his food will show you why.
With its delicious, authentic Mexican food (think more chilli rellenos and less cheese-covered nachos) and delightful waitresses, El Burro has a long list of local regulars. Here you’ll find interesting cocktails, like peach and thyme margaritas, for instance, served against a tastefully-decorated Mexican backdrop.
Another favorite with locals, this minimalistic and unassuming restaurant serves clean, authentic sushi without the deep-fried cream cheese and heaps of mayonnaise you’ll find at most pop-sushi restaurants. It’s all about the deliciously pure and clean flavors here.
This is one of the wineland’s hidden gems. Here you’ll find quirky decor and delicious food, served up by bubbly and entertaining staff. This restaurant is located in a gorgeous building.
The Chefs Warehouse is a favorite of many of the city's top chefs — which I think says a lot — yet just below the restaurant is their preferred lunch spot: Street Food on Bree. This little hole-in-the-wall on trendy Bree Street in the city center serves fresh and delicious meals to-go. Vietnamese rice paper wraps and tuna tataki are some of the tasty options prepared, and they won't leave a hole in your wallet.
The chef here prepares his own cured meats, made with free-range pork that he sources from an organic farm where happy pigs are the top concern. The menu features changing seasonal dishes, and the fresh bread baskets, charcuterie platters and dessert plate are always available and always delicious.
The restaurant is set within the farm’s gorgeous gardens where you can spend a couple hours roaming through lemon orchards and cactus groves. The food is fresh and seasonal.
