Paul H's City Tips

  • 100 klm north west pon M27 travel coast road very straight and speed limits you will find the West coast national Park + Langebaah +Saidanha Bay.. Again all day needed by car You will pass Koeberg Private Nature Reserve on the way just one of many in the area so check out on map and WEB.
  • If you have car need a full day to travel to Cape of Good hope and the point to be able to enjoy .... note sea mist comes down very fast... small fee to enter as this is a national park . Simons town worth a stop some great beaches around
  • If you want to go to Robben Island most important that you book , you can do this by phone or on the Web booking office is n ear the Clock Tower in the V & A Waterfront . If you do book and have ticket check time... Do Not be late for boat as you will NOT be allowed on ... Trip is very good but sea condition can vary and ride be a challenge might need to take sea sick tablets before hand trips takes 45/ 50 minutes from mainland better if you able to use catermaran .... well worth the time and trouble brings tears to your eyes..
  • Plenty of cafes about the city and shopping is good ,just watch out for traffic people jump lights on the robots /( traffic lights) as they change colour. people are very friendly keep large items out of sight, we found it best to take a small compact camera when in city so you could put in pocket or bag. Not much bother with locals most very friendly and helpful .. Castle of Good Hope was interesting but wish we had a guide to explain more about what we found on site.
  • 40 minutes from main city is the area of Constantia drive on M63 + M41 Wine buffs would have to stay in area for al least a week to go to all the wine establishments and vineyards to enjoy. You might pass the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens on way this is well worth a visit, plants and trees so changing all the time small fee to go in, large car park
  • Hidden Market in "The old Bisciut Factory " in Woodstock suburb in Cape Town .. Lots of special local items to buy at fantastic prices .,more going on the week end as special events take place plus places to eat. check out on the WEB .... . Again park on road they use marshalls who are very good . Can give them a small tip if you want to. if you carry on the coast road you come to Table view, West Beach area well worth a stop .
  • Try bus or car towards Sanbdy bay then Camps Bay, good places to eat up-market area .... If Time allows carry on towards Hout Bay, find outside good market on sea front and places to eat. Signs to Chapmans Park pass worth drive... trying small fee to drive along road .plenty of palces to park a take some great pictures .
  • If going to Table Mountain have to park on road if not going by bus. Take som warm clothing as you can get caught out by sudden weather change . Best to check weather report first. Gondola can get busy so go later in the day, as it goes up rotates 360 , so get a good view as go up or down. When you leave try going up Signal Hill road is steep but veiws are incredible once at the top ... small car park available.
  • Takes about 45 minuts to 1 hour depending on traffic to get from international airport to city. Main roads into city good plenty of parking. if visiting V & A waterfront .. park opposite Waterfront Service / Station Walter Sisulu Avenue. short walk to city and V & A shops places to eat , boats trips and lots lots more... .. etc. Be aware if you park closer parking marshalls on road may request some small payment, if not park in main car parks a fee apply...
