Hi, this place looks awesome but I've got a few questions before booking please. I can't quite work out if you have to do self-catering or whether you are able to use the restaurant for all meals? Is there a shop locally to buy some basics such as milk, bread, cereal?
Also how far is it from the Vilanculos airport - what is the cost of a transfer and should it be booked in advance?
How expensive is it to hire snorkelling gear?
Should I use local currency or is Rand or US$ ok?
Thanks for all the help!
L
Sorry my delay...
where we stayed there was a restaurant very kind as we usually leave for diving before the opening so, they open earlier just to help us for breakfast (very good one). Also, all the meals are served there.
for diving, there is rental gear and scuba diving just inside the property. The money should be local money but they accepted us dollars at the end. To get to the Archipelago resort from the airport, if you made reservation you can have the transportation. Also, they call taxi as you need to go to the village. they are all very kind.
You can do self catering or eat all meals at the restaurant. Taurus supermarket is probably about 10km away and you can get most basic stuff and booze there. You can get bread at the supermarket but there is a good local bakery in town near the market and Barclays Bank where you can buy fresh Portuguese rolls at a very good price. It is only about 6 or 7km to the airport I think. The lodge can organize transfers to the airport. Not sure if they include it or if that's extra. You can easily use Rand or USD but may cost you more with the exchange rate. Make sure you know what the bank rate actually is. You can also easily draw local cash at an ATM. I do not recommend Millenium Bim bank next to the supermarket for drawing cash. Use Barclays rather.
Hi there,
You can use the restaurant! They have a really nice one. The airport is close.. but I would advise them picking you up,as for transfer cost I am not sure you would have to ask them directly. As for the money, you can use local currency, if you have US dollar you can exchange at most places at their own rate. Rands is accepted. They will give you change in MEts. ( their currency) up to you which is easiest. We exchange US dollar where we could which was quite easy. You can use visa here.
Just note this lovely gem is far out of the ‘main part’ of Vilanculos about 30 min drive. However here at Archipelago they have their own dive centre and organise other such trips. Hope this helps.
