I believe that Arthur and his family have recently sold the Guest House. We are thinking of booking for next year but are concerned that the standards which have made this a No 1 Tripadvisor hoice, may slip? Views?
Hi Jackie. My name is Declan and I am part of the new ownership team; there is only two of us. I am here on a day to day basis as we felt it important that we have an active presence over here. So I am over here full time for better or for worse. The obvious answer to your question, from someone in my position answering it, would be of course we are maybe even better. But of course that would be arrogant and I am not the right person to answer your question. We certainly hope we are and we certainly strive to be. We want to be even better, if that is possible. I suggest that you check out our recent reviews and listen to the best and most important views - our guests. Our aim, always was and remains not change anything, from the name, the management team, the staff, the ethos and the entire Offer. Thankfully we have managed this and the exact team is still in place, doing the same great job. We have forged a great friendship with Arthur and Katherine and they still very much advise us on how to maintain and even improve on this great Offer they have left us with. Even Anna the dog is still a regular visitor to Akademie Street, need I say any more! Why would we choose to change a winning formula! We only try to implement subtle changes to improve the guests overall experience. We believe we have.
So in short, please check out our recent reviews on Tripadvisor and notice that from the very recent Tripadvisor awards we have managed to maintain Akademie Street's rightful position; actually improving in some of the categories.
And of course we would be delighted to welcome you once again to Akademie Street and let you judge us for yourself.
Regards Declan
We visited in December and met Declan, the new manager (very nice chap, open, honest about the changes). You have nothing to fear, he recognises the DNA is they key to Aka's success and only wishes to preserve it. All is as-was. All the friendly faces are still there, the food and service still 1st class.
We have only known the Hotel since Declan, the new owner, took over, however, the hotel is superb and we have stayed there three times and every time standards had improved even further. The newly restored cottages are gorgeous. The main pool is heated and the separate private pools are heated, too.
When we visited in September, we met one of the new owners to be. He was there to learn the ropes. We talked to him at length and being aware of the status of akademie, told us , they were going to keep the same staff and do their best to keep things as they are. We were able to tell him what we loved about the place. They obviously wish to continue and improve the conditions already in place. Hope it helps.

Declans comments are very encouraging, I truly hope the standard does remain the same as it was a wonderful experience, however as I never met the new owners it is difficult for me to comment.
Hi Jackie, we visited in November and met Declan, who I see replied to your question already. We had a reat time, as Declan said everyone on the team is still there. We of course told Declan not to change a thing, or if he did change, only for the better... Arthur and Katherine are still in Franschhoek, they are planning to open an art gallery there. Enjoy your stay!
