Franschhoek Wine Tram Questions & Answers

London, United Kingdom

My wife and I are in Franschhoek for a day and plan to take the Wine Tram. We were planning to have lunch at Mont Rochelle. Should we take the Blue Line, Tram first departure?

Any suggestions/comments for the other wineries on this line?

Dear Ruminder,

I hope that you are well. Thank you for your inquiry. I would suggest you book the 10:15 Tram First Blue Line. You will visit Rickety Bridge and Grande Provence and then you will be at Mont Rochelle at 13:10 which is perfect for lunch time. You would be able to visit +/- 5 Wines Estates, you would not be able to get to La Bri as they close earlier on the route. Also note lunch at Mont Rochelle will be +/- 2 hours. I would suggest doing the following:

1. Rickety Bridge (1 hour)

2. Grande Provence (1 hour)

3. Mont Rochelle (2 hours)

4. Holden Manz (1 hour)

5. La Bourgogne (1 hour)

Kind Regards,

The advice above is all very sound. The shop at Rickety bridge has some great gifts - we got an apron saying 'I got a case of wine for my wife - best trade I ever made'.

we foudn the staff doing the tastings at Rickety Bridge and Grand Provence to be very friendly and knowledgable. You will have a great day!

The Blue line is great and if you can get on the first one you will have all day and can enjoy the wineries at leisure and perhaps have lunch in one of them. We found that everything was booked up and could not depart until midday. My advice is to book well in advance if you can.

My husband and I did the red route - but with either, taking the first departure, and stopping at the third one for lunch makes sense, timing-wise. We only took an hour for lunch but were still not able to fit in all the other stops on the route. There are more stops than time, so you have to miss at least one stop however you do it. It's very well organised, and a lovely way to spend a day - enjoy!

Timings have been answered for you by others.

However the most important thing is to book the lunch , as a lot of places are very popular and fill up very quickly.

Hope you have a good day !

No- Judging by the timetable, I would think it best to take the first 10.15 tram departure. Visit Rickety Bridge and then Grand Provence first and the get to Mont Rochelle at 12.10 or 13.10 depending on whether you catch a bus or continue with the tram. Have fun!

Thank you all for your answers! Your assistance is much appreciated!

Since we will be driving in from Cape Town that morning, it may be that we will not be able to make the 10:15 tram. We were planning to do the following route:

1115: Departure from Ticket office

1135: Rickety Bridge

1235: Departure from Rickety Bridge

1310: Arrive at Mont Rochelle for lunch

1510: Departure from Mont Rochelle.

I see that if we leave at 1510, we will probably have time to do 2 of the four remaining places – La Couronne, Holden Manz, La Bourgogne and La Bri. Any comments/suggestions on the schedule and which 2 of the 4 we should visit?

Thanks in advance for your help!
