i am so new to wines and recently i got given a 1989 bottle of Elderood .Is this of any value and how many more years can i keep the bottle .
We would place a value of R150 – R200 for the bottle. The quality of the wine will depend how it was stored over the years. The recommendation is to enjoy now as this wine was not made with long-term maturation in mind.
It takes an exceptional wine to cellar for this period of time. It must have been in the right conditions and above all made for it. Wines that are of this ilk usually start at about US$150 and that is the basic. I would be be surprised if this was one of those. Open it, it will be either a celebration or a funeral for the bottle, my guess is the latter
