Thinking of staying in July at Timbavati Lodge: 1) are the mosquitos very bad? 2) is it safe with the animals roaming around the grounds? 3) anything else helpful to bring/know? (never been to south africa). many thanks!!
I think Ben has covered most of your question :) If there is anything else just let us know.
Hi Hoexgirl. July is winter in South Africa and although still warm in that part of the world, there would not be many mosquitos. Every Chalet does have mosquito nets and come equip with a tin of mosquito spray. I would also suggest to have a tin of peaceful sleep to spray on arms and legs. Mosquitos should not be a problem.
Although Timbavati Safari Lodge is situated in the park, it is fenced and very safe to walk around any time day and night.
Just come and enjoy. Everything is available should you require anything further. As it is winter time the days in that area can still be very warm, so prepare for both seasons. You will not get any rain as it is not rainy season. Wish you a great stay in South Africa and Timbavati.
As for the animals roaming around the grounds, the only ones we saw on the Lodge grounds were small monkeys that left everyone alone and a couple of wild pigs that also seemed timid and were just "passing through," wanting no interaction with the people. We saw the can of mosquito spray in the cottage at Timbavati Lodge, but did not use it or need it. (June --winter time there.)
