Can anyone help me please with what to pack? This is my first safari... what do people wear in the evenings?
Very relaxed . Most evenings we just got back from the game drive & went straight into dinner . Jeans , very casual & relaxed clothing. The whole place is a fantastic experience . I would recommend taking warm clothing, hat & gloves for the game drives . Just no bright clothing !! Enjoy
Its totally relaxed. Noone dresses up.In fact you don't even have time to go back to your room after the afternoon game drive and before dinner. They give you a warm damp cloth for your hands and face and a hot alcoholic drink as you get off the jeep.Take lots of warm gear and hat and gloves. They provide ponchos and hot water bottles because it can get very cold on an open top jeep. You will love it. The staff at this place are fantastic and our guide Jason was the best we've ever had.
Totally agree with everyone else, it's very relaxed - think open roaring fires, you've just come back from a game drive and about to be fed for the 6th(?) time that day?! Whatever you wear, make sure it has an elasticated waist!!
You need warm clothing for the drives. Including gloves a hat and a warm jacket also socks!!! Evening very casual. People are in bed early as the drives start really early! It's not a glam evening as after two lots of three hour driving people go to bed to get ready for the next day. Hope that's of help? Judy
When we visited it was beautiful weather in late November, early December. After returning from the late afternoon drive (approx 7.00/7.30pm) most guests, including ourselves, changed before dinner into smart but casual clothing - just dress like you are going out for a nice evening meal. Have a great time at the lodge, it is beautiful in every way.
We were there in September and it was very cold. What I found that worked was pack lots of layers. Take a couple of pairs of shorts, long pants, a thermal, long sleeve shirts, t-shirts, jumper and jacket. Gloves and a beanie if you are going when it is cool.
You leave early when it is cold and as the morning warms up you can take off some of the layers. They will also give you a blanket if it is really. Old as you are in an open vechicle.
You don't really get out of the car unless for sundowners but it is still a good idea to have earthy coloured clothes, khaki, greens and browns. Try and stay away from the bright reds etc.
Don't worry about taking dress up clothes for dinner as it is a fairly casual affair. I hope you enjoy yourself as much as we did.
Hope this helps you.
It's informal so don't worry. Just scrub up a bit. Depending on time of year it's cold in the morning and evening.
Depends on when you are going (in terms of temperature). The actual "dress code" is very casual. Most of the time we stayed in the clothes we wore on safari, had dinner and a few drinks when getting back to the lodge, and collapsed into bed to get ready for the next day's activities.
Depends on the time of year the lodge is very relaxed and not formal
The lodge supply ponchos waterproof ones just in case and if cold depending on the time of year hot water bottles
As far as evening wear as I said informally smart if that makes sense.
Enjoy fantastic place with excellent staff going back myself end of April.
All casual dining. Enjoy!
