We arrive in Guilin at 12:40 (past midnight) on Friday night. Would there be a possibility to get here that late on that evening or should we stay in Guilin for a night and come to Yangshuo in the morning? Can we rent bikes from you?
One more question, where do we buy tickets to take the river down to Yangshuo if we decide to do that rather than take a taxi in the morning? Will any hotel have tickets or do we need to go to some kind of tourist ticket spot? And are there boats that leave from Guilin all day or is there just an early morning one?
Thank you! All great information! I really appreciate it.
Better to stay in Guilin for the night and go by river in the morning. The scenery is stunning!
Better to stay in Guilin for the night. A car from Guilin to Yangshuo will cost about 350 yuan (50 USD) and you would probably still have to pay for that night's accommodation at the Li River anyway. Crash out at Guilin for the night, have a good breakfast and enjoy a daytime trip from there to Yangshuo. The bus trip from Guilin to Yangshuo costs about 60-80 yuan. If you arrange a car through the Li River Retreat (which I did) it will take you to the front door. Yes, the hotel arranges bike hire through a place next door. It can also arrange motorbikes if you're so inclined. Have a great stay, I did!
My 2 young daughters and I arrived at the Li River Retreat around 10 or 11 pm due to a flight delay. We had a professional driver and English-speaking guide pick us up and the airport, so the drive was fine for us. It will, however, be very dark at the hotel (it's in the middle of the woods) and you will likely need to walk up the short driveway/hill with your bags, since the driveway is too narrow to navigate by car. This feels more like an inn/B&B, so be sure to let the owner know your plans in advance so that he can have someone waiting for you. I did notice that they have bikes and believe that the hotel will make arrangements for you. The best aspect of arriving at night is that you will open up your windows in the morning to the most magnificent view of the gumdrop mountains and river!! Breathtaking. We LOVED the Li River Retreat - it was our favorite accommodation of all of the places we stayed in our 3 week visit to China. Quiet, serene, friendly, great food. Also, I don't know if the river trip from Guilin to Langshuo is worth it - very crowded with tourists. We did the little 4-person motor boat cruise (somewhat cheesy and noisy) with the cormorant fisherman (that was great). Your time may be better spent on the bikes, hiking, and maybe the quiet 2 person raft trip. Also, we loved the nighttime cultural show. Enjoy!
Agree, stay in Guilin that night and enjoy the drive to Yangshuo in the daytime. I don’t think the Retreat rents bikes but they’ll certainly make sure you get what you need. Have a marvelous stay.
Stay in Guilin. You might be late and the roads aren't great. The Guilin Park Hotel is OK - right by the river in town. Anyway, you don't want to miss the amazing scenery between Guilin and Yangshuo - go by river in the morning.
