How's the snorkelling area with La Pirogue? Read a few comments about dead reef.
We both love snorkelling. Any recommended areas to snorkel?
It's not dead. There are a few damaged corals close in to the beach and a nearly cleared area for swimming separated from the rest by a line of floats. The actual snorkelling reef is much further out. With fins on it will take 5 minutes of hard finning to get out to it. Off of the jetty is best, but any part of the La Pirogue beach is good. Or take the free snorkelling trips from the watersports centre. Don't just get in the water expecting to see fish. Unlike the Maldives, Mauritius makes you work for it. But the reef is closer to the bathing beaches at Flic en Flac than elsewhere on the island. We are experienced snorkellers and found it very enjoyable.
