It snows in areas surrounding Srinagar with higher altitudes around last week of dec / early January . Some of these places are Gulmarg and sonmarg. If you are fortunate, you may experience snow in Srinagar around these times too! Good luck!

My friends told me it doesn't regularly snow in Kashmir but it certainly does in Gulmarg and Phalgam. But temperatures get cold. When we were there in mid November, temperatures dropped to as low as one degree on one day and gets more dreary when it rains. The forecasts all predicted between 11 to 19 degrees - so we were caught without proper winter wear. I would think that mid December this year would be much, much colder. Be prepared.

But on a positive side, at this time of the year, it is very peaceful and quiet there due to the off season and you can avoid the rush and crowd.
