Hi there! I enjoyed reading your review and hope you don't mind me asking a question:)
We love all the reviews and photos of this property and are seriously considering it for our October stay; however,
I have a small concern about the beach. Was the seaweed/sea grass a problem for you? I read in some reviews where you can't walk into the beach to swim but can enter off the dock; however, in some photos it appears the seagrass extends out to the dock area as well.
Just would like your overall opinion of the beach, as we are really big beach lovers:)
By the way, we're from Texas too! Sugar Land!
Thanks, so much,
Hey there! Happy to help!
You can lay on the beach which is beautiful but there really isn't swimming in the ocean on that side of the island because of the sea grass. Also it can be very windy on that side which make for rough waters that you wouldn't want to swim in. It really is a great place but if your main thing is being on a beach with long walks & jumping into the ocean then Ambergris Caye may not be the place for you. I hope this helps! Happy to answer any more questions!
Yes I did leave the resort. I took one of the bikes from the resort and rode around. Every morning I walked the beach going south for about a mile. I did the snorkeling tour that was thru the resort. Took the resort taxi in to town one day and shopped. Yes getting around is easy to do. The resort taxi into town. The resort golf cart to rent and get around the island. Just tell the front desk where and what you want to do any they will arrange it.
I like you I am a beach person. Yes the sea grass comes in overnight and a little during the day. They work very hard all morning to clean it up. Yes, it's true if you walk into ocean from beach you will encounter seaweed. It's best to enter water from off dock area. With that being said I was disappoint in the beach area. I like to sit at beach all day and jump into ocean to swim or float. I felt you couldn't do that here. But the resort is amazing!! That alone makes up for beach. It's such a relaxing place. No tv's in cabana's. No loud music around pool area. No people attached to their phones. Instead lounging around the pool reading a book. Food is great! The 5 days I was there I really didn't know what was going on in the world. And you know what....I didn't care. Because I was on vacation at one of the best resorts.
The reviews about the beach are correct in that there is quite a bit of seaweed however they do a great (and tireless) job of clearing it each day. I must say that as much as we loved hanging out in the dock chairs, our swimming was mostly in the pool. There is a great beach on the other side of the island but there are no hotels over there. (Just rent a golf cart, it's easy and fun).
Hi!!!! I'm so happy you asked me!
My husband and I LOVE the beach! Matachica is probably our favorite place to go. It's romantic and serene.
The first time we went the water was clear and perfect! (It usually is)
The second time we went the seaweed was closer to the shore because of a hurricane that was pushing it in.
We couldn't even do our fishing trip because of the choppy water and wind.
Anyway, I can't tell you enough. It's outstanding!
I try to give as much info in my reviews so other people can know what to do and where to go and what to expect. It's heaven on earth there
How cool you are in sugar land! That's only 45 minutes from us! My son is actually throwing the first pitch at a Skeeters game in September! Small world :)
If you have any questions about anything please ask me!
I can tell you who to ask for at the resort and where to go on the island! We love going to local spots and having local food! We love to explore and love drinks:) lol
Hi - the sea grass is up to the beach. The staff rake the beaches every day so the beach is beautiful and clean. The dock has individual outcrops with your own large round chair and large umbrella for two with steps directly into the water. You can climb in there for a swim. We primarily did that to cool off. Most of my water time was spent snorkeling. The resort provides kayaks, a couple small sailboats and a few paddle boards. It is easy to kayak out about 15 minutes to the reef and snorkel. Also, there is a swimming pool if you like. I LOVED this vacation/resort.
Yes the beach is very shallow until you get midway to the dock. There is some seaweed still passed the dock but nothing unmanageable. We swam, snorkeled and paddle boarded, mainly off of the dock. Its definitely not mexico type beach where you just walk into surf because it is very shallow with vegetation for first 100m or so.
It's not a walk in and swim beach. They have a grass that grows close to shore. You CAN swim off the docks. If you are looking for a true beach experience this is not it. HOWEVER, we are huge beach lovers and did enjoy this different experience. Seaweed is also hit and miss....kinda like Mexico, some trips nothing and some trips it is awful.
It was an issue at every resort on that side of the island. However, we found an alternative on the opposite side of the island call "secret beach" it was a short 20 golf cart ride. It was awesome, remote and beautiful!
