Denby Pottery Factory Questions & Answers

Hello - I run a language school in Nottingham. Each summer ( july and August) we run a Summer School for Young Learners between he ages of 11-17. They come to improve their English and to have fun! Each Thursday we take them on a day-trip to local attractions/activities. For example Alton Towers, canoeing, snowboarding. We are looking for additional activities and wondered if a visit to Denby would be something we could arrange. I like the idea of a factory tour and some hands-on pottery making. There would be about 30-40 students and English is not their first language. Please could you give me some idea of the cost, and whether you think this is possibility

Very best wishes

Linda

Hi Linda , my wife and I had a brilliant day here at Denby potteries , I would definitely contact customer services for group bookings.

There is an extremely good cafeteria in the pottery village, but there are picnic areas as well weather permitting.

We went on a week day and it was fairly busy

Hope this helps.

Peter.

Hi Linda, as a recently retired secondary school teacher, who did trips for young people, I know how important it is to get things right.

This would be a fabulous experience for them and pre booking would be essential. If you plan it early on in their visit, any firing by the company of the children's finished products would be in time for said items to be collected for them a few days later.

I would also attempt to book tables at the attached cafe, possibly the outside seating area for a picnic or other break.

Good luck and enjoy it. The children would certainly be able to take something good home with them.

You will need to contact pottery for prices. I would say it's an activity for younger pupils than teenagers. Ask the pottery - they will be able to help.

Very little chance of hands on pottery making apart from the frog and some plate painting. A great place, but probably not enough to keep teenagers amused.

I'm afraid you would need to contact Denby for the prices, they may even have some special rates on for larger groups.

As regards Denby being a good place to visit, I think it would be a great day out for all your students.

Not sure of the cost. You would have to call them. However I think your idea to visit is s good one. We ended up making a frog. They offered a number of options including painting plates.

Hi Linda

The entry fee for the factory tour & frog making is £4.95 and if you want to decorate your own plate, have it fired and then collect it one week later then this is an additional £7.95 per plate. Not sure if the teenagers in the 13 a 17 age group would think that this was a " cool" activity though. Have fun in the Summer.
