The lift is probably about 100 meters in front of the hotel, one change and your in Sportina which is the main ski area.
The, mostly, chairlifts are a bit outdated and sometimes slow but adequate. There are no covers, so it can be cold up there!
The only cabin lift takes you from the top into Sestrière, but in bad wheather conditions, this one is closed. Still, you can get anywhere you want and ski right back to Stella Alpina, where a warm welcome awaits you...
There are plenty of lifts in this resort. If you take the bus which stops outside Stella Alpina, you can access Sportinia lift which conveys you to the heart of the mountain. At this point, you will find ski schools, restaurants and access to other lifts. More importantly, the Sportinia lift can also take you back down off the mountain to the bus stop, a bonus if you are with beginners or children. There is a lift directly in front of the hotel which is accessed via a magic carpet conveyor but you must then ski across the lower end of the run, which can be icy and cut up at times. This lift, Clotes, takes you up to red runs. In a good season, there are miles of runs serviced by many efficient lifts.
Ski lifts are excellent in this resort. You can ski to the hotel or if with beginners then a lift from main ski school area and then a five min bus free bus ride to hotel.
Yes there good as gold think they are putting new 1's in
There is a really good lift system (mostly chairlifts) with links to the Milky Way BUT only if the conditions are good. It was closed the whole time we were there early February, although snow was sufficient to open it up shortly after that i believe! Been to that resort many times and conditions have varied. The Hotel Stella Alpina itself is at the foot of the nursery slope so you can ski almost to the door, conditions permitting and there is a magic carpet to take you up in the morning, enabling you to ski across to the Clotes chairlift.
