Unless there is a theme for the event, I would say the best description would be ‘Smart Casual ‘. Meaning dress or smart trousers and top for ladies with suit or jacket and trousers for men. A tie would be optional.

Smart casual really, although some people do use the event as a chance to dress up, and rightly so, where others are in normal suits/ dresses.

Belmond state

Please avoid casual clothing, including ripped denim, trainers, baseball caps, collarless T-shirts and shorts. We reserve the right to ask guests not suitably attired to change, otherwise we may refuse boarding. While jackets and ties are not essential, smart attire and even formal dress is welcomed. You can never be overdressed aboard our beautiful train.

When my daughter's and I went in December we all wore smart trousers and nice tops. Definitely not too formal as it is lunch

I would say very smart casual. No jeans, no trainers, all shirts must have collars.the Belmont is a bit of an occasion so worth dressing up for. Ladies don’t need hats, though. If you look at the people in the royal box stand at Wimbledon , that would be a guide.

I wore a blazer and tie. My wife lbd. Most gentlemen had lounge suits, ladies dresses or smart blouse and trousers. Definitely not a jeans and t-shirt or evening dress occasion!
