What is there to do around the resort? My husband and i want to rent a car so we can drive around roatan but is that possible here?
The resort is on an island accessible only by boat. We would likely not stay there again but stay in the West End where there are lots of shops, restaurants and bars. Plus dive shops.
I personally do not recommend renting a car if you even can. CoCoView will give you expert service to and from the Airport. There is a shuttle you can arrange for and they can take you to different locations. Generally if you are going to CoCoView you are going to dive and dive a lot. I got 24 dives in there in a week. This is a Dive resort in general and on Friday you only dive in the morning unless you are staying longer than the following Saturday. The Friday afternoon is a good time to go shopping and other activities.
We just took advantage of diving and eating and evening bands. We were only there for a week so no time for sight seeing. Too many great dives.
The resort is really on an island with water taxi but they can easily arrange a car rental. Exploring can be challenging but fun. Don't miss the inland highland spine of the island. Views rival something like you see in the south pacific. The resort is really designed for complete dive and water experience.
The resort is cut off from mainland which requires a boat ride and long drive back to airport. We did the tour through resort last day and realized we would likely stay in west end next time. There is so much more to do there including a beautiful beach.
As many say in the reviews this resort is awesome if you dive... and enjoy two dive sessions a day. If you do, the only day you will have free to roam around is Friday (to give you time to detox nitrogen before flying on Saturday). If so, i am sure you could rent a car but you would have to go to the Airport. It is easier to take a tour that the resort arranges or go to the west side by taxi. The island is small, so not a real lot of driving to do. Again, this place is the BEST if you want to do serious diving, but maybe not if you want to do a lot of island exploration!
Exploring this undeveloped island by car from CoCo View is possible but your options will be limited. The main road from the airport to Coco View is in poor condition. You will pass a few towns on the way to the resort but there did not look like there was very much to explore other than other resorts or restaurants from which to soak up the beautiful views and tropical ambiance. A few couples on our dive boat took a car and explored north of the resort and did find a nice place for lunch.
CoCo View is out on a little island, so there is not much else to do except dive and relax. You can get a boat ride back to the mainland, where there are many other thing to do. There is a Zipline, a couple of nature preserves, even a Mall to go shopping. The resort even has a tour of the area one day.
