We went on the Alaska cruise and found it all great-our cabin stewards( Bach and Andi)were very helpful and friendly and looked after us very well as did our waiter(Arduwan)who each day remembered our drinks order although we sometimes got a different waiter and sat in different places. All in all the service was great and food was terrific. We would certainly recommend the cruise

In my opinion, one of the greatest examples of "bean-counters" ruining what could have been a 5-star experience and review. Total lack of "working" staff in restaurants and bars. Most evenings we entertained ourselves with a game of "Spot-the-Waiter"!!! Dining Room - Long wait for food and drinks Food - Lukewarm Lido - Manic and opening times short Diners - borderline inedible. Disgusting Casino - hardly ever open and closes early In my head I have an image of a bespectacled accountant sitting with his pencil in his cosy 20th floor office, thousands of miles from the individuals that are actually doing the work..... If we cut this, this, this, this, this, this, this and this we'll save $$$$$$$ WRONG!!!! If you cut this, this, this, this, this, this, this and this it will COST $$$$$$$$$$$$$ It doesn't really cost much, in the big scheme of things, to please your customers. It is these small gestures, tokens and a feeling of "had a great time" that has your customers flooding back and encouraging their friends to do the same. 100% of other passengers that I asked, would not be coming back to a HAL cruise. The wife and I enjoy cruising and have another booked later in the year, needless to say, not with HAL!!! On a plus side, - the scenery was out of this world. - the ship was clean and comfortable - the stateroom was big and roomy - the stateroom staff were great and deserved a decent tip In summary, Alaskan Cruise is a must for any bucket list. But not on HAL

We went on the Koningsdam June 22, 2024. Agung who tidied our room was fantastic. Moko in the Dining Room was very good. We met interesting people and the scenery was really nice until we got to what is left of the glaciers in Alaska. They are receding very quickly. We never got sick during covid or the years after but we and many others got sick on this cruise. People came on the ship sick and felt it was their right to spread it around. Once sick we wore masks to protect others but few did that. The food at the Buffet was a 5 out of 10 and a breeding ground for people to get sick. If you plan to take this trip, spend the money for the expensive restaurants because it is quieter and the tables are far apart. We are relieved to be home still recovering from this trip. Would I take this trip again.....no. Too many people got sick.

First, some background: I chose this line based upon social media advice that Holland America was an Alaska expert. We sailed June 8-15, 2024. The Good: pristine ship, shore excursions were fantastic, Grant - the trivia guy - was fun, Rock and Roll band was good, Pinnacle Grill was yummy, room stewards Made & Jay were wonderful. The Bad: Buffet was often closed, Pizza place was almost always out of pizza, shows and 'nature talks' were underwhelming, food was just okay - nothing special. The two sea days were so boring. Most cruise lines have triple the activities that they had planned. Other than Grant's trivia, we were wandering aimlessly, trying to find something to do (not swimmers, drinkers, or gamblers). There was a horrible smell in our toilet that was never resolved by maintenance, though our kind room stewards tried and tried. The sewer smell was bigger than they could fix with just cleaning. Mostly, this will be our one and only HAL cruise because the lack of food and entertainment available. We are 60 so I imagine a younger crowd would be even more bored.

Have tried two of the speciality restaurants on board Kooningsdam . Really disappointed with Pinacle Grill. Style over substance. Long wait for orders to be taken and drinks to be served. Crab cakes were quite underwhelming. Husband's steak was so overcooked we shared mine rather than wait to have it changed. We ordered same souffle for dessert. They looked totally different, mine being quite deflated. I did convey all of this to the chap on the front desk. On a positive point; we had a lovely view from the table.
