This town has a little of everything from a castle with a museum in side to Jewish catacombs. It also has a Roman ruin site

Archeological park in Venosa that has the shell of a church that was never completed. The remains of mosaic floors, the carvings on the doors and capitals, the sheer scope of the park...breathtaking and incredibly fascinating.

We visited the archeological site of Isernia and learned that some artifacts of the ancient settlements are also in the Venosa museum and so we came here. The museum is located inside the castle which was not too hard to find. Many of the parking spaces outside the castle are for those with special permits, and so we parked on one of the smaller side streets. Anyway the castle is not so special, but the museum was quite good. The displays were described mostly in Italian but still interesting to see. There is a section for prehistoric artifacts and another section for Roman artifacts. The ticket also includes the archeological site.

Very nice example of statuary that can be found throughout the town of Venosa. This statue is on a side street.

This small Cathedral in the city of Venosa is not covered with the ornate carvings and frescos of many others in Southern Italy but exudes a simple air of peace and tranquility.
