What travellers are saying
- Cafe Rinjani DawnLombok, Indonesia1 contributionMount Rinjani is one of Indonesia's iconic mountains, and a must for anyone who is visiting Lombok and likes to hike mountains. Be warned, climbing Mt Rinjani is no "walk in the park", it represents a genuine challenge for most people. Being from Lombok, I have climbed the mountains a number of times, and can offer the following advice:
1. Prepare for the hike. You will find it far more enjoyable if you have a good cardio base. There is a fair amount of elevation gain in a relatively small distance.. which translates as steep most of the way.
2. Choose a reputable (and licensed) company. This is important for many reasons. Despite being mind-blowingly beautiful, Rinjani has a rubbish issue, especially at certain rest points. Most of this problem comes from illegal or budget operators not employing enough porters. They are carrying too much weight, and look to get rid of excess at the earliest opportunity. Ensure the company you book with has a "leave no trace" policy, and uses a good ratio of customers to porters (1:1 is a good ratio).
3. Pack warm clothes for the evening and the summit push. Temperatures can drop to a few degrees above zero (centigrade) on the crater rim and summit, and if it's windy, it can feel freezing. Another reason for choosing a good operator, is they might be able to lend you a jacket, hat and gloves if you forgot to bring these items.
4. Bring a small amount of money to tip guides and porters.
5. Drop by Cafe Rinjani Dawn before or after your trek, to enjoy ice cold beer, locally sourced coffee, pizza, burgers, and the best Indonesian food in town! If you need advice as to reputable trekking companies, we can recommend our friends at Rinjani Dawn Adventures and Lost on Lombok.Written 13 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Most of them dont treat well.Written 10 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- TopKingofKingsUnited Kingdom583 contributionsBoth waterfalls were stunning and lucky to have a tour guide with us. There is a bit of hiking involved and it is important to have comfortable footwear if you are going to see the second waterfall which you will have to walk through streams and rocks to get there but it is well worth itWritten 3 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SaakiaaaJakarta, Indonesia17 contributionsBeautiful & quiet. Good for couple or people who just want to getaway but not much night life and activities. This is smallest gillis and very relaxing i personally like it cause we dive and enjoy the sunsetWritten 9 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jon V7 contributionsI really like the vibe of this town, sure it could do with a bit of a make over, but that’s happening slowly. The locals are not jaded from the tourism industry and welcome westerns with warmth and abundant smiles.
There is a nice selection of places to stay in all budget ranges, a lot of new developments indicating growing interest in this area. Recommend staying off the main road as traffic noise can be a bit loud. Apart from that, the roads don’t yet have traffic issues like Bali, so getting around is pretty easy. No current taxi or bus, either walk, hire a bike or arrange a driver.
The beach is OK, I prefer Selong Belanak, Are Guling, Mawun and Tanjung Aan for swimming. A few hawkers on the beach, but they like to have a chat and are pretty harmless.
Great food, and no shortage of choices. Free plug for my favourite Sappori Italian, where the food, staff and ambiance always made dinner special.
If you want to be close to Kuta, but have a really quiet location, highly recommend Are Guling, only 10-15 drive to Kuta Centre.
This place is changing fast, but in a good way. Shopping options aren’t that varied, no stores selling great home wares etc, mostly surfing wear stores, so not great for those that like retail therapy.
But what makes this place really special, is the locals. If you allow yourself to connect with them, the people in Lombok are some of the most genuine and kind people I’ve ever met. Lombok is definitely worth the effort.Written 18 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - sue cdudley uk324 contributionsPre arrange taxi with Sudin Transport from Lembar cruise pier to Selong Belanak beach. It was about an hour drive each way. Driver dropped us off at Laut Biru bar and restaurant, which we used for alcoholic drinks and toilets. We grabbed some very comfortable sun loungers a little further up the beach for about £5 (100,000 IDR), take local currency!!
Beach was pretty clean compared to others and wonderfully quiet and relaxing. Popular with surfers and great to watch. Sea was lovely and warm but too much wave action for good swimming. However, don't expect to see colorful corals as most of the corals are dead in this region.Written 25 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Anu N1 contributionMany animals you can see and touch, even play with. They seem fine and loved. Recomend to buy a fruit basket, so you can feed the animals. - JinjjaDaebakkSingapore, Singapore167 contributionsWe went with a guide which charged us 70k rp per pax for the first 2 waterfalls. There are also motorbike services to both waterfalls if you don't want to walk. Benang Stokal is very easy to get to but wasn't very pretty. There are almost 200 steep steps to reach Benang Kelambu but it is very worth it because it was so beautiful.Written 22 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Steven SPattaya, Thailand754 contributionsVery nice looking beach. I only stopped by to take some photos. There are a couple of warungs to buy food and drink. Some reviewers had problems with the kids. I only had two approach me. I said no thank you and both times they then left me alone. I didn't feel it was an ideal swimming beach.Written 4 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Jill H4 contributionsI would never have known these islands existed only for my son backpacking was advised to visit them and they didn't disappoint. Three small islands we chose gilli t island. Accessed by boat these little islands have no cars and you can tell the fresh air. Transport is bicycle and horse n cart. Short travel to any hotel or villa. These people cater to you re every need. It was beautiful. Sunlit walk down the little terrace to breakfast a nd a good breakfast it was or they deliver any meals to you re villa. If you are not put off by 10 minute dirt trek walk to beach it is well worth it. Definitely a place to get away from it all.Written 7 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
