An esplanade greets you as you walk towards the Fort San Felipe del Morro. Surrounded by grassy hills, the stone castle rises majestically from the headland. And while El Morro may be an impressive sight from land, it is a terrifying experience to encounter it head on by sea. And for many attackers, it was the very last thing they saw. This fortress has seen many battles over the centuries, from Sir Francis Drake's attack in 1595 to the 1898 Bombardment of San Juan by the US Navy. In 1539 King Charles I ordered the construction of San Felipe del Morro and other fortifications on the islet of San Juan. Over the years, Spanish, Italian, Irish and American engineers perfected San Juan's defense system, of which el Morro was an essential part. After crossing the stone bridge over the dry moat, you'll walk right into a spacious courtyard that harbor leads you into the castle's more "domestic" areas, such as the kitchen and the chapel. Nevertheless, this is just one of the six levels that form el Morro. On the upper level, you'll find the lighthouse that was restored by the American Coast Guard in 1908. One of the greatest things about this vantage point is that you can see most of San Juan and the bay across from it. Park rangers will guide you throughout the massive fortification, which still houses original cannons, ammunition, and many other objects used by the Spanish militia in Puerto Rico. El Morro was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983, and is currently under the administration of the National Park Service.

Art, history, food, drinks, culture- OSJ has it all! Take some time and see what the US Caribbean is all about. OSJ has something for everyone. Despite the negative reviews- as long as you aren’t seeking trouble, OSJ is about as safe as any other major city. Keep your wits about yourself and be kind. You may actually gain some humility and appreciation for the culture. Plenty of small museums, galleries and shopping to keep everyone happy!

We took a Mixology Class & Tour on 2/3/24. Cristian was our tour guide. He was AMAZING! I learned so much from him. He made the tour fun and engaging. I was there in December and did the same class and tour and wish I had him then. Cristian made the entire Casa Bacardi experience top tier. One of the highlights of our trip! Give him a raise!

What a great piece of history, it just makes you wonder how this structure was built way back then. This was a stop on our excursion so we only had about 30 minutes to explore the entire Fort. Enjoyed a bit of history of what we could get in. I would recommend at least a 3 hour stay to soak it all in.

Easy walk from cruise ship piers. It is uphill some of the way. We docked early morning do the fort was not open yet but we were able to walk around the grounds. The scenery is lovely. It’s worth the walk to look at the ocean from this historic site.

Best part of Culebra!! Beautiful beach! Lots of food kiosks with good food and drinks! Water is a little rough so be careful but overall a beautiful large beach! Plenty of room!

This is definitely a must visit if going to San Juan. The fort itself is massive, and you could spend hours exploring all the different parts. There are a lot of steps and a lot of walking, so anyone considering going should keep that in mind. It offers educational materials as well as beautiful spots for photos. Park staff were very friendly as well.

We went with Blackbeard. JJ’s van ride was entertaining. Our tour guides were Maeve and Luis. We went near a full moon, but were lucky cut and had pretty solid cloud cover. It’s a really cool experience. Even my 70 year old mother who had never kayaked before enjoyed it!

This is easy to find in old San Juan. The fountain is so lovely and full of detail so spend some time looking at it. Very peaceful and not crowded. Continue along the path to see some beautiful scenery!

This beach is beautiful! We jumped off the pier into a school of tropical fish. The sand is soft and the water was calm and clear on the 2 days we were there. We rented umbrellas and they do a great job securely placing those. The food trucks did not disappoint. There was a DJ one day.

My wife and I visited on a Monday, parking along the road near the 7.6 mile marker. A few hundred feet east was a stairway down to the beach, marked with a sign. We made our way east along the beach (1/4 mile?) to the rock mound. The climb up might be challenging for some. Once on top be aware of unmarked holes that drop into the cave below. A quarry created by the Spanish makes for a natural ampitheater with views, and at the corner of the quarry is the entrance to the cave. A local, Daniel, offered to guide me and took me through the slot pathway and showed me handholds and footholds that I may have missed in the dim light. Daniel was an excellent guide, showing a variety of petroglyphs and natural features of this ancient religious site. The highlight of our trip to PR for me.

Cayo Icacos is paradise on Earth. We are so glad we did it. We took a water taxi from Fajardo. It costs between 50 and 60 dollars. They gave us a big umbrella without any charges. Renting an umbrella is about 20 dollars. The trip was 15 to 20 minutes. They don't allow to travel with babies but toddlers are fine. The color of the water is crystal clear blue. So transparent! The white sand of the beach. The green vegetation. The views of Puerto Rico with El Yunque on the background. This family trip was the best decision ever. Better than going to Isla Culebra which is farther and harder to get at. Our experience in Cayo Icacos was heaven on Earth. You can go on a catamaran or in a sailing boat for a higher price but they don't allow toddlers.Make sure to bring your food and drinks. There is no development in this little key. No one lives there. No buildings. Thank goodness! We will love to go back in the future.
