What travellers are saying
- summerinthecity01yorkshire283 contributionsBorn & bred in Pontefract but moved away as an adult. Last time I visited here was around 30 years ago. It’s changed for the better with the cafe and gift shop. It’s ok to pass an hour or so and glad Pontefract has managed to keep its history with the castle. The cafe was so so with only me and one other person the service was very slow more bothered about filling up the fridge than serving. Blast from my teenage past & worth a visit.Written 26 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

We stopped here to break a journey its very accessible from the motorway and there are clear (if not too well signposted) tracks. Wild flowers were lovely.Written 1 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Andy D2 contributionsThe farm and Pumpkin picking are great, especially if it’s a mud bath. You just need wellies, that’s all. Loads of fun.
The trouble is, the communication is terrible. You collect pumpkins in a wheelbarrow and there are no staff telling you what’s happening. Then you leave the site realising they’re charging a fortune for pumpkins as you exit. I was expecting to pay a premium, but £12.50 for a large Pumpkin is ludicrous, when they’re £3 in a supermarket.
All the kids rides are super expensive too!
Maybe next year charge £10 entry each, with a free pumpkin included.

The volunteers that ran the event are some of friendliest and kindest people you could hope to meet. Really grateful that these events and services are available for communities to enjoy. - Kerry H1 contributionWe use this park every day with our dog, it’s nice to see it being used by other people as well , including cyclists, walkers, horses , joggers, and the runners who have recently come to use the park on a Saturday morning, 9am-10, but when it comes to taping off the path I’m very sorry but they are obstructing our right of way , and there is absolutely no need for it , we had to stride over the tape and then duck underneath it this morning with the dog , actually they are acting as if they own the park for the morning , we don’t inconvenience them , and they shouldn’t inconvenience us. We’ve been walking over here for the last 40 years , well before it was a park , and it was the tips.Written 4 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Steve DBarnsley, UK19 contributionsAs a child my wife and her parents brought her children here on a semi-regular basis and they all enjoyed it. I had never been and so we decided to return to mark her sons 18th. Along with her daughter and our grand daughters, as well as my parents and sister, we booked for the Sunday cavery, tea and races.
The food was lovely and plentiful, lots of meat options and multiple gravies available. The desert menu was long and varied and the sandwiches and cakes for tea were also nice.
On a customer service front I can’t find fault; all bar and service staff were friendly and, as we were leaving and our daughter thought she had lost her car keys, the owner was prepared to empty bags of rubbish to check for them (luckily it didn’t come to that).
The bar was reasonably priced so no complaints there either.
If I was to find a niggle it would be some of the people in the red “Kinsley” polo shirts got a bit over exuberant with their choice of language when their dogs were winning. I’ve no issue with swearing but doing so around children of guests was not appropriate.
Other than that it was a lovely, fun day out and I would enjoy going back.Written 9 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DavidUK2010York, UK331 contributionsA rather large park next to the hospital and just on the edge of town. You could miss this if driving as you have to go down steps to the park.
Very large and well kept. Plenty of flowers on show. Boards showing information. Shame they removed the old paddling pool.Written 29 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. From the distance it looks like an old ruin. But in fact inside the ruins there is a current working church built inside the old ruins.
Unfortunately it was closed when I visited.Written 3 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
