What travellers are saying
- Tom B5 contributionsVery well laid out, with lots crammed in. However a little on the small side, got round it in 45 minutes taking our time. Nice combined with either the steam train or ferry, but would not say its a place you would go to on its own.
Parking was £3 for 2 hours or £5 for 10 hours, but over 300 spaces so plenty of roomWritten 15 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Needs a bigger car park though as it's so popular!Written 28 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - macedonboyGlasgow, UK179 694 contributionsFinsthwaite Tower is a two-storey folly tower with a stone tablet that is also a war memorial to three great Napoleonic naval battles fought by the United Kingdom. It requires a bit of dedication to get there though as the tower is located at the summit of the Finsthwaite Woodland with an unrelenting uphill climb.Written 5 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - john sutcliffeLowick Green, UK296 contributionsIts now a rare opportunity to see the migrating salmon and sea trout jumping the wear to enter Windermere.A great view of Newby Bridge built in the early 1600s and still carrying traffic todayWritten 3 September 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sherles00Lancaster, UK120 contributionsVisited the Holt Spa for a spa day and afternoon tea. Whilst the spa facilities were lovely, the service was extremely lacking. We arrived at 12noon. After saying we had never visited before we were given very little information about the spa, most spas I’ve been to give you a quick guided tour first. They do not have locker keys so you have to keep going back and forth to reception to get a member of staff to lock or unlock your locker for you. I pointed out there was no soap or lotion or toilet roll in the ladies changing rooms. 4 hrs later and still the soap and lotion had not been replenished. There are not enough staff clearing away empty glasses and cups from the spa so it looks scruffy. Despite there being a sign saying don’t leave towels on the beds there was no one enforcing this so they were everywhere. Along with the no phone rule, not enforced. Had to go to reception as the drinking water had run out and no one replaced it for the first hour we were in there until I asked them to. Had to ask how to order Prosecco, no info or menus in the spa so again back to reception. The spa facilities themselves were lovely enough. It would be good if you had access to the hotel pool too though for a proper swim. After our spa session the showers were dirty with muck and hairs all over the floor and hairs on the shower wall. It was nice to have the hair driers and straighteners available. But the bags for wet swimsuits were tiny like sandwich size bag!?! The hand drier didn’t work. We came out for afternoon tea which again was nice but lacking in service. Had to ask 3 times for our afternoon tea before it was finally ordered! No table water offered. Just generally lacking in good customer service. Thankfully I spotted the iPad on the way out to enter the car reg as no one informed us of this when we arrived! Plenty of staff around but just doing meaningless tasks like wrapping a towel in bath robe instead of actually attending to the spa. Overall, for the price paid this was not worth it. Such a shame as we had high hopes, but the service was just too poor. We will not be returning.Tip:Make sure you enter you mr car reg in the iPad. Go to the low wood spa instead!Written 16 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- spencer j5 contributionsWas able to accommodate us every day we used the spa, having stayed at the hotel itself.
Pool was nice did get very busy on the jubilee days but children not allowed in jacuzzi, steam rooms or saunas so some relief from children.
Only issue for us was the treatments being booked so far in advanceWritten 6 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Did both horizontal and vertical caves - including ropes and abseiling - and really well managed and organized at all times. Definitely would againWritten 24 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
