- GungaJimLouisville, CO12 contributionsI had one too many days in Asuncion so I hired a driver to take me to Formosa, Argentina that is a 6 hour round trip. The Paraguay River Costanera de Formosa (riverwalk) consumed most of my time, particularly near an elbow bend in the immensely wide river. The bend is just across from a Paraguay village with a pleasant little beach.
It was fun to watch a sizeable barge train negotiate the bend. It looked like it was 5 or 6 barges long and 5 wide. Another 200 meters to the southeast, you reach the southern terminus of the walk where a collection of sleek, new, metallic grain elevators dominate the Argentinian side of the river.
We then drove northwest to a park at the other end of the riverwalk where there is a gaudy life-size, year around, Nativity scene, and a few blocks away, a re-creation of the Last Supper with more Spanish flair.
You get to see a nice mixture of Argentinians as you walk along the river. Late afternoon/early evenings is the best time to visit. The drive through the Formosa province gives you a good look at the chaco landscaped dotted with palm trees that, as I understand extends into Paraguay northwest of Asuncion. I am trying to visit all the provinces of Argentina and this is probably the easiest way to visit Formosa.Written 22 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Javier RBuenos Aires, Argentina63 contributionsthis is not a museum, it is a shop in a good old house. Look for the attendant who knows about the tribes and communities. Very nice woven art crafts made by Wichis, Qom and Tobas.Written 19 August 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
