The museum is full of informative displays. I was made aware things that I had never heard of before. The exhibits were moving and gut wrenching. They get into your soul. The most intriguing was the videos of people attempting to make excuses for their crimes against humanity. This exhibit is not for the faint of heart. The people affected have been traumatized and are finding ways to heal and live. The Nelson Mandela exhibit was immersive and very informative.

It is hard to see how they treated people like animals and was only closed in the 1980s ,
So, really, not so long ago ,
Is great that they turned it into the Constitutional Court as the place that took peoples rights away, now gives people those rights
They even used some bricks from prison for the new court
Both Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandi spent time there, in different timeliness due to protesting their peoples discrimination

We had been to Victoria Yards twice to do a cycling tour with Micro-Adventure Tours and always thought it was beautiful.
Great to be able to come back for First Sunday. Wonderful atmosphere, fantastic music, gorgeous flowers and planting, great market, galleries, and food stalls….and a gin distillery! Really fun place to visit.

It is a great place with young children. But be aware that there are limited number of rides for kids slightly shorter than 1.3m that are no longer toddlers. Otherwise park is fairly small size, so you do not need to walking distances. As we came during the working days, hardly any queues at all. Some water rides were closed which wasn't ideal, but they were open later in the day. Overall a great day out.

Although the memorial is outside in an open space, being in the location where Hector Pieterson was murdered by the Apartheid state of South Africa was extremely heavy. The memorial is well maintained and the tour guides, including his sister, are well informed and engaging. It was very sad to see his sister - the schoolgirl in the picture running next to Hector and Mbuyisa, relay the story for tourists wanting to understand the history that she forms a part of. It was also here that I learned that the schoolboy who was carrying Hector, Mbuyisa disappeared and no one knows what happened to him.

This was Mandela's home and now is a small museum. It has been renovated in parts and contains important clippings and items of historical significance. It is important to include a visit to the Apartheid museum either before or after visiting his home. You can still see the bullet holes on the outside bricks.

I’ve been to South Africa so many times and only now did I come across this museum which has so many military artefacts. I am so impressed by the exhibits of military uniforms aircrafts vehicles etc. also what really positively surprised me is the Polish connection exhibition with so much information and artefacts too! I’m originally from Poland and was always curious if there is any connection so there you go -:) I found lots that dates back to Jan Smuts times!! And also Outdshoorn - if you’re into history WWI and WWII it’s a place to visit. Prices are very reasonable so no complaints

By all means visit Soweto and challenge old stereotypes. Recommend the excellent Mandy Imbizo Tours, run by a local.

The market is a lot smaller, but it seems to be of better value. Food was really good (Tacos and Indian Curry). The place did not seemed to be very busy after lunch but there were painting classes and Some good quality hand made South African clothing and crockery on display.

We had an absolutely fascinating tour of this beautiful house. Katharine is a wonderful hostess and is a fount of information regarding all aspects of Victorian life. No matter what anyone asked she had a complete and fascinating response. I learned so much. She is a talented restorer and builder of doll houses! A must do!

Walk from Tutu's house to Mandela's house and experience this historical street. There's a lot of poverty still in Soweto, and it's sad that for many, not much has changed since democracy has come :(
