This is a beautiful place. You are practically alone in the middle of nature. We did the afternoon tour from 4 to 6, which was great because we could see the sun setting. We did see many birds like pheasant-tailed jacanas, purple herons, blue tailed bee-eaters, brahminy kites, an eagle and an open billed stork. We did also see a giant squirrel. The guide was very friendly and patient. He had a book where he showed the species that we saw, which I liked.

The most relaxing was to spend an afternoon, being quietly and skillfully paddled by Chimila through the water lilies and water channels as our knowledgeable guide Guyan pointed out the various birds and other wildlife, including the weird snake bird and beautiful painted storks. The warm breeze and bird song and then the water buffalo responding to the farmers call, made a magical tranquil trip. Guyan and Chimila were so kind to our toddler granddaughter and showed how to make the flower bloom. Thank you,

Our bird-watching expedition in Kalametiya stands out as the highlight of our journey in Sri Lanka. Buddika, our guide, alongside the boat captain, showcased an impressive depth of knowledge about the diverse bird species inhabiting the area. Their respect for nature and wildlife was palpable, enhancing the authenticity of our experience. Their thoughtful provision of water bottles and willingness to cater to individual preferences, like our request to spot a kingfisher, truly personalized our adventure. They skillfully captured stunning photographs and videos, enriching our memories. The exploration was further augmented by intriguing insights into local flora. Their dedication to exceeding expectations transformed our trip into a remarkable adventure. I heartily recommend this experience to anyone with a passion for nature and wildlife.

My family and I really liked the Anantara Hotel. Friendly and helpful staff, beautiful hotel grounds, excellent service. I would especially like to highlight employee Anthony, who helped us very quickly and efficiently in resolving our questions and wishes.

I flower blooms, the ashram shines.
It‘s vibrant outreach into the world aligned with the inner peace state.
Marvelous space creation by Sam & the people of the Ashram!
A place that is given for you, me, them, us. For all to explore within different realms.
The natural building approach & it‘s down to earth lifestyle is perfect for anyone who is looking to retrieve into the woods. Connecting with oneself is given if your able to listen inside, bonding with the people of the ashram is also an everlasting opportunity to get to know cultures and new perspectives.

One of my ‚will be back‘ places for sure.
Truly in awe and admiration for this creation & the care during my stay.
Thank you thank you thank you.

We went with Kayak Kingdom to the Bengalle lagoon and had a great time. The guide had good local knowledge with bird life and solid kayaking skills. He was really friendly and easy to talk to etc. We saw nesting herons, egrets, pelicans etc.
A rare non- motorized wildlife experience in Sri Lanka.

I had the most incredible experience at the sanctuary. Pasidu and Mahinda made the experience very special. I learned so much about the wildlife through their knowledge and wisdom. The scenery is breathtaking and it’s so peaceful there. I recommend doing the morning tour to see the sun rise as you set off!

It was a good experience and felt like a keep safari in the jungle. Happy to see animals are free and not in the cages like in other zoos. Interesting thing is, we can see many of foreign animals in this park. Specially this is a good place for kids. The birds park also nice and can take the birds on our hands by feeding them. It was nice, but birds doesn’t have their total freedom.

Had a lovely time on this river trip. Especially good for birdwatching. The guide is very knowledgeable. It’s very peaceful and a great way to see the river and surrounding trees and scenery.
    Reasonably priced.
