One of the most beautiful gardens that I've visited in Japan. The area is vast and you can easily spend a couple of hours in there. You can take a boat ride or have a matcha in one of the tea houses. The autumn colours in November are breathtaking.

At 4:00 we met our last local guide, Yasumasa Omori, at a parking lot. He is a volunteer guide for English speaking tourists, but his command of English is subpar. We had difficulty understanding, but we could tell about his love of his part of Takamatsu.
We walked his route, looking at sad tourist sites, including the Aquarium, a shrine, abandoned buildings, empty shops and the non-existent tourist.
He wanted to show us the beautiful sunset from atop of the mountain, but we were tired after a full day of touring. We thanked him and gave him a box of Hawaiian choc-mac nut candy.

A hidden gem. The buildings in this open-air museum were assembled from all over Shikoku to conserve them. It gives an intriguing insight into the daily lives of common people of old. Most of the despriptions are in Japanese but you can download the free English audio guide app. Plan enough time as you can easily spend a couple of hours on the vast grounds.

The castle and park are maybe 5min walking distance from Takamatsu Station. The surrounding park is well-maintained and a great place for a peaceful stroll. There weren't a lot of other people around.

We went with Stanford Travel/Study Japan trip. This is an awesome place- created by an amazing scultor. Viewing all of the stones is an emotional experience, which everyone in our group of 30+ people enjoyed.
Each stone is special and even better when placed as assembled by the sculptor.
This is a place not to be missed.
It is a sculpture garden- filled with stones collected from around the world that have been cut and polished and placed by Noguchi.

My kids are growing up here in Takamatsu and they LOVE Sanuki Kid's Kingdom. There are lots of things to climb, a lot of things to play with, and the area is pretty huge. The kids can check out a grounded airplane, and ride bikes. It's a great place to burn off some energy.

Inside there are more places to play, a music room, a craft room, and science based interactive toys and displays. Kids will be easily kept busy for a few hours. There is also a restaurant upstairs as well. The only thing you can't do is fly a kite. We got warned by the police because the place is too close to an airport. Besides that, it is GREAT.

Our guide Katsuko Yui knew we would like to end our exquisite visit of Ritsurin Garden with a restful repast here in this simple, but beautiful, Japanese villa. Shown to our area by an attractive hostess, we tried to sit on the tatami mat but stopped short to ask her for chairs which suit us much better.
The rooms got rather crowded as more visitors came in without others leaving. Soon the aesthetics of the moment and place were overcome by the awareness of the incoming crowds of visitors, choosing sit among us.
The matcha tea and sweet were enjoyed, but we were ready to leave.
There is an additional fee to enter as well as necessary reservations.

A gem of a Temple (& Shrine) off the beaten track near Takamatsu in Kagawa. Accessible via the Kotoden Electric Railway its well worth a visit for it's giant Getas and its syncretic Temple/Shrine complex. When I visited I was the only westerner and most of the visitors were pilgrims doing the trail around Shikoku. It's approached via a very cute Cable Car with some little trains made to look like mini Shinkansen... the kids will love that. High in the mountians amid nature its a very impressive and little known site.

The Takamatsu Castle is known as one of the only three castles which has a moat that is directly connected to the sea. The castle is unfortunately not around any more but there a few surviving structures and a beautiful garden to form the Tamamo Park.

This park is easily accessible as it near a train station and ferry port. It’s a traditional Japanese style garden it's easy to walk around and enjoy a nice time. We visited in Jan and it's quite windy and not a lot of visitors.

It has been a nice island walk with lots of artwork around. The only drawback is very limited choice of restaurants on the island.

Tired from shopping? Then look no further because this place has a lot of restaurants, too. The place is covered, so you don't have to worry during rainy days.

The Kotoden train is a site you see wherever you go around Takamatsu. The station staff are great, always so tidy and professional, the platforms are clean, the cars are clean. It is easy to use, not expensive, and kind of cool. The trains rumble all over Kagawa. You can go downtown or you can ride all the way out to Kotohira (a must for visitors!) and then you can climb Konpira! Ooooohhhh.... Ahhhh... Anyway, Kotoden trains are smooth and easy to use.
