What travellers are saying
- Christian MCopenhagen, Denmark4 068 contributionsThe beautifully landscaped Rambla along Montevideo's beaches and coastline elevates the city into the international elite of capitals.
What the city and country may lack in obvious tourist attractions, the Rambla more than makes up for.
We loved strolling for kilometers along the wide path and watching runners, cyclists, skaters, and other athletes of all ages enjoying themselves without bothering anyone else.
On the beaches, the beautiful white sand was starting to fill up with towels and lounge chairs - on the water, small boats with white sails sailed around - and we high-fived each other for having stopped by Montevideo on our way around the world.Written 9 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The artifacts and associated materials bring the story to life, and the power of the human spirit and will to survive make an indelibly lasting impression. If this story were written as a novel, no publisher would print it, as being too incredibly far-fetched. But it is all too true. A must-see for any visitor to Montevideo!Written 8 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Linda BState College, PA76 contributionsThe old city of Montevideo was lovely to walk through and enjoy both the sites and tastes. We lunched at Sometimes Sunday and ate at the amazing Mercado del Puerto marketplace -- arguably the best beef in S. America. For $22 US, we shared the most amazing steak, potatoes, and salad. The atmosphere is casual but the service and food superb. You will be astounded at the amount of asado and will be in heaven if you dine there.Written 27 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Giuseppe CincindellaRosyth, UK1 696 contributionsIt's the big square in the heart of Mintevideo, symbolizing the independence. - SnowyShastaPortland, OR2 151 contributionsWe stayed in a hotel in the heart of the old city, which made for a wonderful opportunity to stroll the area at various times of day. There are multiple parks and pedestrian only areas, which made walking nice, although there did appear to be road access to most locations, so you did have to look for cars.
This part of the city is very pretty, with a good number of old buildings and small churches, and we felt quite safe walking to and from the port, even with luggage (we departed via the ferry).Written 10 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jacquelyn J50 contributionsThe tour was lovely and very informative. Very easy to organize via WhatsApp. They have guides in English, Portuguese and Spanish. - Daniel BModiin, Israel566 contributionsWe went to a concert by the Sodre juvenile symphony orchestra (mostly teenagers) conducted by Giselle Ben-Dor. They performed several works by Dvorak and Aaron Copland and did a pretty good job of it. The auditorium, which has several levels, has good acoustics, and despite being in a side aisle (on level A) I could see everything. A nice venue.Written 18 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
