Beautiful big volcano just above a stunning big lake. The view, when the sky is clear, is absolutely stunning. The top is covered of snow all the year. We stopped on the lake to take some nice pictures. It's a high peak, the shape is typical.

We entered the park through the Lenca entrance. It was a bit rough since it's a dirt road to get to the park entrance. You park on the road leading up to the park.
You walk next to a rive most of the way, passing one waterfall and several Alerce trees that are quite tall and old.
Lots of plant life and trees to learn about while hearing the peaceful sound of the lake.
If you are adventurous and want to do the Laguna Chaiquene & Triángulo (9.5 km/5.5 mi), you have to arrive before 11 am, and reach Chaiquene before 1 pm, otherwise you will be denied that second hike, but you can still go to the first lake.
    Other notes:
-Foreigners pay 6000 CLP, in cash.
-There are no trash bins, so take your trash.
-There is only 1 full bathroom around the 2.5 km mark after the start, so be ready.
-There are some parts where you have to ascend without rails nor bars to hang on to.
-Go earlier the better to avoid crows (and go to the second lake)
-You can't fully swim in either lakes, but you can submerge on it.

This is a little petting farm where you are given a little pot of food (included in the price) to feed the birds (ducklings, chickens, turkeys and an emu), plus other food for the goats, sheep, llama and donkey.

We were greeted at the gate by a lovely St. Bernard who helped show us the way.

There are some very short trails (which can be very muddy) down to the river and there is a little play area for children and a small cafe which is open on a lunch time. I’m in my 40’s and I liked it. If I had children, it would be perfect for them. It’s quite a way from Puerto varas and the last few km are on a dirt track, we did it in a normal car but just be careful of the pot holes.

    Highly recommended for families.

.......Instead, with your back to the sea turn left, You walk alongside the road which is lined with small shops and stalls selling arts and crafts and the usual tourist tat. At the end, you enter the quaint fishing wharf and harbour of Angelmo. There is a large outdoor/indoor produce market and it is particularly fascinating looking at all the strange looking types of fish and shellfish on display, When you have finished browsing the market, you can usually see seals in the harbour area.
The market area is lined with quaint two storey timber buildings many of which are small bars/restaurants selling authentic local dishes at really cheap prices. Be prepared though because most will only accept local currency - check before you order!

Two walks available, 1 is 600m fully accessible including “educational displays” at the start, the 2nd is more like 1.5km (not walkway except in boggiest parts).
We completed both walks and the feeling of being in a rainforest was very authentic, especially on the longer walk, despite the overall size of the park being very small (2km square?).
We saw no other visitors or cars during our 2hr visit.
NOTE,, you need to telephone the park guard to let you in when you are at the first gate on the highway.( number fired to gate on clear sign). If you don’t have a telephone then I don’t see how you would get in.
The walks and car park are approx a 3km drive after this first gate.

While not one of the more beautiful cathedrals we have ever seen, it is certainly one of the most unique. Originally built in 1856 as a church, it was later used as a theater and army barrack! In 1896 it was reconsecrated as a church. When the then Pope created the Diocese of Puerto Montt in 1939 it was named as a cathedral in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

The architectural style and Doric columns are believed to have been inspired by the Parthenon. The cathedral is built of alerce wood, a type of cypress tree native to the Andes mountains. The copper cupola and use of rectangular pieces of stained glass add to the uniqueness. The interior is interesting in its simplicity, rows of Doric columns on either side of the nave, lovely murals, a neo-Gothic chapel. I would not go out of my way to see the church but it is worth a visit if in the area. Check the hours.... I think it is only open in the morning or early afternoon.

Plenty of shops at this mall but it seems a little out of the way and a little disorganised to try and navigate through

I travelled North from P Natales to P Montt.
I'll mention the downsides first. The boat was three days late. I'd read the advice that it didn't always arrive in the morning so not to book anything soon after arrival, but I didn't imagine that to mean don't book anything for three days after arrival. Also, we didn't know straight away that it would be three days. We were given good warning about the first day. I discovered on Friday that we wouldn't board on Saturday but a day later. On Sunday, Navimag kept saying that we might board that evening but "try again in an hour". But in the event we didn't board until Monday evening. It's very difficult to arrange alternative accommodation at this sort of notice. Initially we were expecting dinner once on board but, owing to late boarding, this did not materialise. Some might fret about the lack of wi-fi on board (for the passengers at any rate), but I was glad of the "technology holiday"
On the plus side, once the trip started I really enjoyed it. There were just three of us in an eight-berth cabin. I slept OK despite the noisy ventilation system. The food was plentiful enough - not gourmet cuisine but quite acceptable. I did feel that the total banning of alcohol on board was something of an over-reaction to previous passenger misbehaviour. The views, of course, were wonderful. In particular it was interesting to pause outside Puerto Edén whilst some loading and unloading took place. We were adequately warned about the likely pitching of the ship during the section in the open sea but, in reality, I didn't find it too bad. I enjoyed playing deck chess and also the visit to the Bridge.
Overall, I recommend this as an eco-friendly (well, relatively) way to cover the distance - you just need to take the timetable with a generous pinch of salt.
