There were lots to see and my 9 year old son made his own print. - Matt Ferguson11 contributionsI visted the Hoa Lo Prison. First, the good. I learned so much about the French occupation and the following repression of the Vietnamese Rebles. Now the bad. The American Vietnam War section was not balanced. I would say the museum did not address the harsh treatment of American POWs, but nor did I expect it to shine a light on that dark history.Written 12 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David GOban, UK64 contributionsA very good museum which makes understanding the history of this wonderful country, I read a lot about Vietnam before coming here but I found it fascinating to learn more from the information described here, especially the 54 different “clans “ , not to be missed!Written 15 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - foodie50NyNY466 contributionsAbsolutely riveting museum that depicts the contributions of women to Vietnam society. Exhibits are well presented with great explanations. Do allow at least an hour to go through and see all the various floors. Truly an enjoyable learning experience.Written 9 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- BrakiWorldTravelerBelgrade, Serbia17 760 contributionsThis was my second visit to Hanoi, however both times I didn't manage to see Mr. Ho Chi Minh's body in his Mausoleum, but was around in front and on other sites around the complex.
So basically, you're reading tips from a traveler who didn't make it inside, but for sure will next time :-)
HCM Mausoleum is within a huge space with several another sites.
When entering the area you pass an airport style security check. After that you can roam freely exploring the area. You need around 2 hours min for that, excluding the Mausoleum, which visit length depends on the queueing line.
Besides the Mausoleum within the complex is the Presidential Palace, One Pillar Pagoda, HCM stilt house and a Museum (small entry fees for the latter two).
People here review and post pics of all these together, but I'll focus on the Mausoleum, while others you can read in respective reviews.
My previous visit in 2017 was during some Vietnam holidays, so the waiting line in front was very long, some 2+ hours as I was told by police, so I gave up.
This year, in Jan 2024 I put it high on my to do list saving our last day only for that.
Unfortunately, I did not know the Mausoleum is NOT open every day. It's open only 4 days a week and some of these days only 8-11 AM. So, inform yourself beforehand if you want to enter it and see Mr. HCM body.
All other attractions on the premises are open every day, so you still have plenty to visit.Written 10 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We don’t get to enter as it was closed during our time. The architecture is gothic in its own way.Written 13 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ShannonSuva, Fiji1 034 contributionsWay much better than the Arts museum in Ho Chi Minh. Wider range of art works and better maintained building. Saw some of the best pieces of paintings I've ever seen here. Slight negative is that some rooms air-conditioning needs improving. In terms of crowds it's more empty compared to other museums so don't expect queues.
