What travellers are saying
- John M5 contributionsIt was well worth the visit. The museum was very quiet but the staff were friendly and the exhibits were extraordinary. I particularly liked the large diorama. It is a must see site for anyone with an interest in modern Italian History.Written 27 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JM4 contributionsWe booked a winery tour for Oct 23. Unfortunately, the weather was not on our side, but this is obviously beyond anybodys control.
As we booked out of season, we ended up with a private tour of the vineyard. We got Matheo as a guide, and he was brilliant. Incredibly knowledgeable and his English more than plentiful to give us an immersive experience.
The hospitality was brilliant throughout the whole experience. We were offered water upon arrival and complimentary umbrellas to counter the falling rain.
When it came to the wine tasting, we had well thought out meat and cheese pairings for every wine. In total, we tasted 5 wines (1 sparkling white, 1 white, 1 rosè, 2 reds).
Following the wine tasting, we were offered to try the winery's own produced Grappa. Of course, we did purchase 2 bottles of our favourite wines. Whilst we were waiting for our taxi, we were also offered to try a sparkling rosè.
Can't recommend Montonale Winery enough. It was such a great wine tasting experience.
Shout out to Tigre the Cat, who accompanied us on our tour.Written 19 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Nat_YorkYork, UK16 contributionsWe used the boat service twice on our holiday, the fast service from Salo to Sirmione and from Salo to Malcesine we used a fast service and the slow service back. This is a great form of public transport (definitely not a guide boat!). We found if you get there early you’re guaranteed a good seat, plus we found the staff in the Salo office to be really helpful. Be careful with the ticket prices, if you just buy a standard ticket you can’t use the fast service, and need to pay a supplement. We found the service to be efficient and clean. The slow boat is a long journey but an amazing way to see the lakes!Written 19 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Steve_Grant1Oldham, UK1 607 contributionsThis is a nice lake front area that is well worth taking a walk along. There are many restaurants and bars across the road from the lakeside that are worth sitting down at for a while.Written 19 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - bebsaurus_13Paris, France803 contributionsThe chapel and ossuary are simple but are a powerful reminder of the human cost of wars.
The Bones displayed in the ossuary are a tiny representation of the number of soldiers who died in the Battle of Solférino, whose aftermath inspired the foundation of the Red Cross. However there are already so many bones on show that it really emphasizes how destructive this battle, and many other of the Italian campaign were.
This doesn’t have to be a long visit, but it’s a powerful one and worth the detour.Written 23 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This winery and its restaurant are truly special- with care and attention to their produce and the land. The wine tasting is well worth it, as well as lunch at the farmhouse. A true Italian experience which showcases love for food and drink which the country is famous for.Written 10 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
