What travellers are saying
- Hilary R4 contributionsKnowledgable tour which was good for kids. We went on a wet February day and had a good tour. Learnt LOTS and was a good length visit. Good explanation of how the tunnels are made and coal is mined.Written 13 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rae5 contributionsA beautiful place with amazing photo opps, but it was a little confusing to get around. Didn't realise you have to pay almost a tenner to get in though...Written 25 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paul A1 contributionAs usual, an amazing time was had, 3 families went down with 5 children aged 1 to 7.
To see the excitement, with them all running around trying to find their names on the presents was wonderful. Santa had them all shout out his name on the count of 3 and they raised the roof. Coffee and cake after rounded off the day.Written 25 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Only disappointment was the food, even by 1pm they had basically ran out of food, so do suggest you take a picnicWritten 11 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. When we visited two very friendly and knowledgeable gentleman showed us around and gave us a trip on the tiny train. I’m not a train enthusiast but still found the explanation of an old-fashioned signal box fascinating, and a real steam train was very impressive close up. Lots of interesting bits and pieces to look at and it’s obviously an enterprise maintained by an absolute love for the subject. Charming and refreshing.Written 24 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Kevin DSurrey, UK465 contributionsThe yellow cycle trail is worth a visit ,. Approximately 17km of fairly easy riding. Good tracks , on and off piste. Some quick sections particularly in the west section south on Canoop lakes. Pleasant stop, for a break.
The ride is good, cannot comment on the cycle centre as it was all closed when we went there on a Tuesday…even though the advertising say open every day. Cafe, bike hire, and bike repair all were closed.Written 16 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. But how do you know how long you are going to be there? Also only two ticket machines, with only one taking cards. Forestry need to change the system, others sites have numberplate recognition and you pay for the time you are there.
But if you really want to save, park near Speech House or the Speculation and walk to BeechenhurstWritten 17 August 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are places to sit and ponder. An old fossil stone. Walks from the arboretum too.Written 25 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - npgsheffieldSheffield, UK120 contributionsAn interesting walk which was quite easy to follow if you bought the map at the cafe (£1). The route gave an excuse for a nice walk although the sculptures were generally not overwhelming. The need to maintain them and to enhance the route with new exhibits was apparent, but the cathedral window and the new reflective multi coloured fungi were very good.Written 15 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DianeBlackburn, UK10 contributionsThis is a beautiful medieval church located in the picturesque village of Newland. I walked the burial path from Coleford and after sitting for a while in the churchyard went in to the peace and tranquillity of the church itself. It has many very interesting features; stained glass, monuments and the miners brass. It also displays some beautiful work by Beryl Dean the embroiderer.
Thanks to the local church community for keeping this church in its good condition and allowing it be open.
When you visit please don’t forget that the upkeep is helped by visitor donations.Written 28 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
