Five years ago we visited Treviso and were stunned by the beautiful well preserved historic walled city, with magnificent buildings, some of which went back to the 13th Century. Treviso is further spruced up by charming waterways, giving ot s feeling of being in Venice sometimes. But making Treviso a real 5 point plus destination was the modest amount of tourists, making Treviso really livable. Beautiful and charming Treviso was a well kept secret. But sadly, one day we saw Treviso promoted on the Internet as an alternative tourist attraction to Venice. Now, Treviso is on the radar of many tourists and it shows. It was far more busy as five years ago and the restaurant we went to for lunch full of anticipation, had been turned into a tourist trap, where tourists were bussed in for lunch. Fortunately, the neighbours were still the same as five years ago but there it is. But
Treviso is still beautiful Treviso with an easy five points rating.

Definitely take the time to walk the canals and find the many bridges, especially the Buranelli Bridge.

Lovely walk along the river after walking through the canals in the city. Peaceful and quite even on a Wednesday morning. Green and tidy, we really enjoyed the sunshine in this beautiful city on an October day.

I loved to walk all around the square and observe the buildings, the wonderful ancient windows “bigots” in Italian, the lion of Venice also on a wall, all was so beautiful

Very nice fountain, worked well, both streams were running nicely. An unusual theme to make a fountain about. It was easy to find, but must be a replica of the original as at some point later we saw a worse version which stated it was the original.

There is no shortage of impressive churches in Italy and Treviso is no exception. Even then I can especially recommend visiting the Santa Lucia church in Treviso and be impressed with its beauty and serenity.

The location provides excellent views of the city and the Adriatic sea. There is a good museum of old weapons.

Beautiful area to walk around. A large section of the river is accessible via the tow path. Boats are available for hire. Many places to sit and enjoy the view – perfect when you have to wait until the various tourist attractions are open after the noon siesta.

Yoy arrive there and you cannot believe that a 'dwarf' island is there. And they sell fish and seafood in the morning. There are nice cafes and restaurants all around and you feel on another planet.

During the early 1500s the old medieval walls were demolished and replaced by brick walls some of them still intact untill today. The course of the Botteniga river was diverted to create a deep moat. Nowadays only parts are intact often with just stagnant water. At the time it must have been an enormous construction work. The investment was deemed necessary due to the attacks by the League of Cambria, a rival entity to Venice. Nice to walk along the northern sections.

Better then the cathedral, with more paintings and a more spiritual atmosphere. Quite a few panels with interesting informations. At the entrance, the moving memorial of Petrarca's daughter; at the bottom left of the autel, the monumental tomb of Dante Alighieri's son.
