- Judith_TripTipsBrighton, UK225 contributionsDrink coffee in the square, learn its history and take in the beauty of Trieste. Walk across the road to see the bronze statues on the sea, and stroll to the canal, then back along the lovely shop lined streets. If you're lucky you may visit Trieste when a concert is happening in the square, and it's a great spot for New Year's Eve!Written 7 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Judith_TripTipsBrighton, UK225 contributionsAfter years of driving past we decided to visit and now wish we'd visited years ago!
The castle is steeped in the history of 19th century Trieste, the Hapsburg empire and its aristocracy. Stunning antiques, well thought our descriptions in each room if you don't opt for the audio version.
And the park and gardens are magical with beautiful views over the Bay of Trieste.Written 7 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This was a very informative stop and a must in Trieste to understand the history and experiences particularly in ww2. This is definitely worth seeing and learning about.Written 9 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Michelle Laura KDuino Aurisina, Italy40 contributionsThis is an amazing historical place to visit in Trieste! The volunteers that guide you through the tour are all well prepared and spread their enthusiasm to you in their explanations of the underground history of the city of Trieste. I highly recommend this tour of the tunnels to anyone who loves history!!

We walked up from the town which is quite a difficult trek uphill on cobbled and uneven streets. However it was worth the effort. The Cathedral is beautiful and near to the ruins of the castle and the war memorial.Written 18 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kathy BLeominster, UK21 contributionsWe felt like escaping the town and finding the beach so took a bus (which was included in the 24 hour bus ticket) to Barcola.
The beach is not sandy but is perfect for a hot day because there are wooded areas, with trees for shade and plenty of seats. We sat near the steps that lead into the sea.
Swimming is only for strong swimmers because the water is deep straight away. We had a great time swimming and relaxing before taking the bus back into town.
The beach was mostly full of locals and had a friendly atmosphere.Written 13 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is easy to do some of the main attractions by yourself. We walked up to the castle. It is a bit of a climb but not too strenuous. The views of Trieste from the parapets are beautiful even on a wintry day. My husband enjoyed the armoury.Written 27 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
