After visiting the 1909 Town Hall and the President Pretorius Museum, we stopped at this 173 acre reserve.
While researching the trails on the site map, a weasel appeared to inspect us. A recently cut path led through the swampy habitat with sounds of moorhens and looking up to tall reeds with small birds flitting about, I began to sink in, not prepared for the results of this past rainy week. Returning to our car, we needed to depend on a recent article; “While here you could see the Black Crake, African Purple Swamphen, Black Winged Stilt, Waxbills, Warblers, Pipits and more as well as a number of ducks and herons”.
Come with boots and a rain jacket.

This dam is priceless, but the government-run facility is poorly managed: there is NOTHING there. If you're into hopping onto a boat and spending the day on the dam, then all good and well but don't expect anything more. Rather visit Tanglewood private resort on the other side of the dam which gives you better access with infinitely better facilities.

Very nice road with a few potholes from Potch. Good beer, rhe home of Fokof lager. Image it. Go for the beer tasting platter. Amazing. The 1kg wings and a 1 liter beer for only R150. We enjoyed the country style view. Well worth the trip.

I have visited the distillery twice now and have been really impressed each time.

Simon is really passionate about making gin and has developed three top-class gins. They easily rank at the top - with the likes of Inverroche.

The other great thing about their gin is it's not made from grain, so the gins are perfect for those who are gluten-intolerant, like my mom-in-law.

Even the dry gin (which I thought would be horrible, like the normal dry gins in the shops) is excellent.

This museum is wonderful ... home of the President Pretoria and truly the beginning of the Transvaal area. The president’s home is well maintained and the furnishing offer insights into the era. The barn is fascinating and the grounds are well maintained. On the day I visited, there was a delightful antique show and sale going on. The blacksmith area is great as well ... truly the original maker space!

Arrived to having to try to find the business as there isn't signage. Once inside of the parking, i had to wait for 30min to be booked in (7 at night) as my booking was lost? The room was okay, shower head does not work properly and there isn't a single carpet to speak of. Bed was nice and comfortable at least. Went to have breakfast in the morning to find not a soul around (7:15) not even open. From a 4 star place you would expect to have some form of communication or some form of service. Would not recommend this place to anyone.

For the price of R950 that should include breakfast, it really felt like a rip off. Even trying to contact them fell on deaf ears as the phone just rang and rang.
