The hike was amazing. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed it. Our doggo Nate absolutely loved it too. Would definitely recommend this hike for anyone especially those hiking with the dogs. Best dog friendly hike I’ve been on so far.

We visited the Stone Circle museum after a trip to Adam's calendar in Kaapschook and For those interested in the history of mankind - this is a must visit - it really has a fascinating 'feel' to it and is like unwrapping a magical mystery...... after a very informative talk from Edwin- who is passionate about the history of the Stone Circles - he then took us to see the ruins of one and a fertility stone circle just a few kilometres away from the museum.
We also had a tasty meal (luckily they cater for vegetarians ) at the museum site and wander around their shop/book stall.
......but the question remains - who built all these stone circles around that area?

The waterfall entrance is easy enough to find and there is plenty of parking. The owner of our lodge warned us that the the town is in between contracts for the tour operator of the waterfall viewing point and that the current guide didn’t have the best approach to customer service. The guide approached us immediately and offered to take us the waterfall. I’m not sure you could really refuse. He noted that there was a small fee but doesn’t tell you how much until you are already down the path. We had been told that it should really be something like 30-50 rand but he initially asked for 300 for what turned out to be a 20 minute visit! When he figured out that we didn’t have very much cash and wouldn’t give in to his demands, he started asking for food too. We were happy enough to share some of the snacks and drinks we had in the car but it felt like we spent the whole visit arguing over the fee which made for a really unpleasant experience - one that we wanted to cut short. Aside from the guide, the visit is nice, through an old steam train tunnel which is kind of dark and spooky and then emerging onto a platform looking over the falls (in the distance). Beware that the platform has big holes in a few spots where it appears there was a small fire. You would really need to be cautious visiting with little kids. It’s a shame the place is in such bad shape. This could be a really nice attraction under better management.

A well hidden, tiny gem if you are interested in a little bit of South African history.Take the time to read the posters, and walk through the rooms slowly. What did SPJ Kruger do in the last few months of his life in ZAR? They were very interesting. The posters were informative and well presented. The rooms are clean and well kept.
The gardens are lovely, clean and well kept. A quick, easy to understand hour in an important part of SA History!

These are some of the best trails I have ever ridden. There is lots of variety, through forests, over rocky sections and beautiful grasslands ( lots of wild flowers when we were there). You get a lot of elevation, but the climbs are gradual and not steep.
It is good to go in a group and the book a shuttle, which takes you to the top of the mountain. There are 3 flow lines you can ride down hill and be picked up again. Too much fun.

We did a two hour trail ride with Susan recently and the whole family enjoyed it very much. We were greeted by Susan’s many dogs upon arrival, many of them rescues that she has taken in over the years. She loves her dogs and her horses and loves telling you about their different personalities. Susan’s horses are really calm and she matches your level of experience to the horse. No need to worry if you don’t have any experience. My ten-year old loved his horse, Merlin. He also loved the fact that many of Susan's dogs come on the trail ride too! The trail we took winds through a eucalyptus plantation and up to the top of a hill where a battle took place during the Anglo Boer war (battle of Helvetia). Susan is a history buff and told us about the battle and the history of the area. It was also interesting to learn about the different horse breeds that were bred in South Africa. More than just a trail ride, this was a lovely introduction to local history and lore. We really enjoyed our experience.
