First I was a bit reluctant, private game reserves are often big zoos rather than wild. But Sanbona is different, the emphasis is on wildlife conservation, something that our guide Jordan brought across to us. I have learned a lot. And the staff at Dwyka Tented Camp are great, thanks again Janice.

Every visitor to Montagu should put this on top of their list! Such a special and unusual way to experience the town, and the fruit!! Out of this world!

I spent close on to 3 hours walking through the gardens. Yes, it is dry, but there is still a lot to see.
Refreshing shade and lawns to relax on by the stream.

A easy, but rough, trail takes you up and over the hill where you can see panoramic views of the towns and surroundings.

At a R5.00 per person entrance fee it is well worth it.

Saturday morning markets are a must-do if you are in Montagu over the weekend. Good variety of breakfast options, however opportunities for gluten free exist there. Jams, pickles and local fresh veg are great. Pecans too. Worth a visit, a friendly place to relax and shop at, nice atmosphere.

This drive is undoubtedly one of the best drives with views constant.
We drove up from Ashton, through the pass to Montagu, and have transversed R62, through to Oudtshoorn before and this is a true fantastic scenic drive.
From Ashton the road has still not been completed due to road maintenance companies going bust, so with roadworks in place at two places there maybe a short wait at times because this is single file.

Visiting this small museum one feels how brave an perseverant the first families must have been, coming to then faraway Montagy.

Everything very well presented and most interesting

A place not to be missed if you stop in Montagu. It will take you only 5 minutes and it is very close to the center of town. It is quite impressive to see all these birds packed in a small area.

Amazing affordable olive tasting experience on the R62 outside Montagu. Small menu too, well worth the visit. Extremely friendly owners

The start of the town and still watching over it many years down the line. Beautiful rose gardens and recently renovated. A must visit.

I loved my visit to this home/ gallery. The art was diverse and entrancing and the host was welcoming. I appreciate that the art is displayed in a home, it send the message that art belongs in our homes. Hick's own works have a fantasy and sometimes slightly surreal theme but his own experiences and sense of humor shine through. The art works are moderately priced and offer the opportunity for everyone to have something interesting on their wall. Entry is free.

The historic KWV building houses the Museum Art Gallery in Montagu displaying the work of local artists.
The art gallery and museum although not large, was both enjoyable and interesting.
The old wagon was used to carry coffins by the voortrekkers, and the old switchboard was used in Montagu until 1975.
Isn't the decorative wrought iron staircase amazing.
Art work displayed was done using various mediums.
I particularly liked the flowers that were raised and glossy using a resin technique.

It is a short trail along some beautiful rockfaces. it is well marked and we watched a couple of rock climbers along the way. It is an ideal short walk on a hot day. Unfortunately, there is no access to Avalon Springs at the end, as the pools are for hotel guests only.

Sadly they do not have a priest at the moment, so a Morning Prayer service was held instead of the Eucharist. It was a lovely service, with the children present going to the front to sing some of the carols (rather shyly!).
Would be nice if the times of the services could be posted on their website, also indicating which are the Afrikaans and English services.

This short circuit hike starts and ends right on a main street in south Montagu, across from the Aasvoelkraans B&B. The trail was fairly well marked (except when descending from the summit, where you have to look for the trail markers a bit), and fairly steep in places, but only about 3 km long and manageable even hiking alone. There are some nice views from the summit. Trails are mostly rocky.
