During our two-night stay at Sanbona Nature Reserve, we watched a family of elephants browsing among the acacia for their breakfast (including a big bull who came right over to say hello!), springbok bouncing along in front of our vehicle, gemsbok flying across the road, young male giraffes play-fighting, baboons descending from the cliffs at sunrise, a lion "calling for his ladies" (in the words of our guide, Jan), and many other iconic birds and animals of South Africa — all set against the most spectacular landscape we have ever seen. Jan went out of his way to track down a family of cheetahs, and we walked quite close to them as they basked and cuddled in the sun.

The staff at Tinley Manor created an unforgettable experience for us, from the outstanding meals to the lovely and spacious accommodations. They even arranged our transportation from Cape Town and back. When we returned after the game drives, they greeted us with hot towels. On our first night they served dinner for us poolside, where lanterns and a fire pit cast a cozy aura all around. Michael, one of our favorite staff members, regaled us with stories and made us feel especially welcome.

Sanbona is a very large reserve, and it was a privilege to experience wild South Africa as if we were the only people around. These memories will stay with us a lifetime.

This was our 4th tractor ride and lunch. It is an amazing experience for all ages. The views are magnificent and the lunch - all cooked and served outside in the woods is fantastic.

We came here first and our ticket for entry also included entrance to the main museum/church.
Delightful little museum and cute garden, we felt privileged to have taken a look into the amazing past of Montagu and its beautiful people.

In comparison to the big markets to be found closer to Cape Town or in Hermanus, the Montagu Market was full of interesting items and culinary condiments for sale. The stall holders were all welcoming and informative. As stated, it is a small market, but well worth spending fifteen to thirty minutes browsing before continuing a trip.

We had visited Joubert House museum and the ticket there meant we entered this museum as part of our ticket.
Steeped in history but the main focus is based around the beautiful people who were treated as third class citizens during the years pre of and during apartheid.
Sobering thoughts throughout, this was place of worship but for long periods of time- not for all.
Delightful building, friendly staff and a small garden to ponder upon what we had experienced.

A place not to be missed if you stop in Montagu. It will take you only 5 minutes and it is very close to the center of town. It is quite impressive to see all these birds packed in a small area.

I loved my visit to this home/ gallery. The art was diverse and entrancing and the host was welcoming. I appreciate that the art is displayed in a home, it send the message that art belongs in our homes. Hick's own works have a fantasy and sometimes slightly surreal theme but his own experiences and sense of humor shine through. The art works are moderately priced and offer the opportunity for everyone to have something interesting on their wall. Entry is free.

The start of the town and still watching over it many years down the line. Beautiful rose gardens and recently renovated. A must visit.

I called this the little Meiringspoort when we arrived to drive through this pass - and so it is. While it is very much less in kilometres than Meiringspoort it is just as impressive. The mountain folds and geography is just mind blowing. The road through the pass is really good and a few "picnic stops" to take in the views. Driving under the arch is a must - I wonder how that came about - man made or natural? I need to research that fact. It is a wonderful way to enter or leave Montagu.

The historic KWV building houses the Museum Art Gallery in Montagu displaying the work of local artists.
The art gallery and museum although not large, was both enjoyable and interesting.
The old wagon was used to carry coffins by the voortrekkers, and the old switchboard was used in Montagu until 1975.
Isn't the decorative wrought iron staircase amazing.
Art work displayed was done using various mediums.
I particularly liked the flowers that were raised and glossy using a resin technique.
