So much history in this beautiful location. Great views; very popular among tourists. Certainly lives upto reputation.

Reached via an uphill walk, this is a very charming square in Hondarribia. There are some lovely buildings that surround the square making for some good photo opportunities.

In many ways I would have rated this beach higher as it has good clean sand, nicely shelving water, is in a sheltered bay and has lots of facilities close by.

The fly in the ointment however is the fact that we visited Plage d’Hendaye, on the French side of the harbour, earlier in the day and it really puts this one in Hondarribia in the shade.

This is one of the old gates that still remains along the walls of the town. It would be well worth a walk around the entire walled section of Hondarribia to take them all in.

The area is beautiful with stunning views and lots of opportunities to explore the rocky shoreline. It was apparently bird hunting season during our visit so lots of hunters in the blinds, numerous unnerving gun shots and the occasional falling pellets in some portions of the trail.

The walls of Hondarribia are pretty impressive. You can walk around the walls to get some great views.

We parked in a lot just below this gate and then entered the town by walking through it. Approaching the gate afforded some wonderful photo ops as the gate is pretty striking.

Get yourself acquainted with the walking routes in the hills behind Hondarribia. This is on one of the walking routes and if you walk up here first then back along the coast you'll have a walk that takes a few hours, easy to moderate in difficulty and will get some great views of the hills and the coastline.

The beauty of this place is not that it's a lighthouse it's everything that lies around it. The lighthouse is fine to look at but you can't go inside, at night it's nice to sit on the terrace of the camp-site cafe and be swept by the light, very film noir. Also walk past the lighthouse, then past the sewage plant (listen I said it looked nice, not smelt nice) and your onto a beautiful walking path that wanders along the top of the cliffs, a great place to watch the sun go down.

This attractive old church is the main silhouette you get of the old town and is its focal centre. It’s an attractive church and the stand out features for me were several large and ornate sculptures around the outer aisles by the stations of the cross. They weren’t chapels per se, so I’m not sure what their purpose is other than decorative features. Other than that, the altar area and reredos are very attractive.

Authentic and quirky restaurant in the old part of Hondarribia, very close to the harbour. The food is all local, with a special focus on fish/ seafood. From the sea we had clams in a green sauce (white wine, garlic, parsley) that tasted so delicious we cleaned the plate dipping bread in it. Then, the best chipirones I’ve ever eaten (small squid). We also had thick, juicy white asparagus from neighbouring Navarra. The waiter, Esther, was simply fantastic. I can’t recommend this place enough and plan to return as soon as I can.
