What travellers are saying
- shellee2022Las Vegas, NV4 contributionsI first visited this beach 24 years ago and to my surprise it was just as perfect as I remembered it. The sand is fluffy and beautiful orange color. The water is warm and clear and a great place to swim. It is a state beach so you have to pay for parking but it is completly worth it. We got to watch locals skimboard and body surf. It is safe four tourists and the locals were welcoming.Written 8 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- mauriciotoreyHouston, TX43 contributionsWe spend a few days in Maui and visited multiple beaches, this was one of our favorites... perfect for snorkeling, clean and easy to access, the beach is also next to a resort so you can have access to food and drinks easier than in other beaches..Written 17 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Crys13 contributionsI wasn't able to walk the entire path but caught the middle area several times. It's an easy to walk path right by the Ocean and beach front resorts. Provides a great place to see Turtles as they play in the surf or come on the rocks to rest.Written 13 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- tmcBoston_MALexington, MA3 contributionsWe've spent many a day on this beach. Gentle surf, sandy bottom, great little rocky point to snorkel around. One of most beautiful beaches on Maui. If you're staying at Ekahi, easy, private access. Small public parking lot with access. Fills early.Written 11 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- dancinggoatsSan Angelo, TX323 contributionsNice family beach, protected from the wind for the most part. Wasn’t too crowded but parking can be a pain, especially in the first part of the day. Restrooms are ok but not the cleanest. Shower spray to wash off the sand, but no food or drink facilities. Decent snorkeling, good body surfing, popular spot for scuba lessons.Written 22 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- skibranChicago106 contributionsLovely beach a short climb over a rocky hill from Big beach. We parked on the street not sure if that was ok but no ticket so :) Unofficial clothing optional beach if that is your thing. Sweetie said he didn't feel unsafe in the water there, though no lifeguard and good size waves.Written 8 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- jmryl2018Dallas, TX59 contributionsWe enjoyed this beach twice during our stay. A little hard to get there, but worth the effort. Parking lot is a short walk from the beach. Nice and clean beach area. Not very crowded. Surf was a little rough at times. Go early to avoid high surf.Written 3 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- msa23_2000Chino Hills, CA1 078 contributionsThis is secluded and quiet. Not shops or crowds of people. You do have to walk a little to get there. Good for relaxing; the actual swimming wasn’t the best. Waves were far out and there are rocks as you go in. But if you just want to relax and enjoy the sand and pass time - I recommend it here. A part of the beach is clothing optional - which is good to know if you are into or not into that.Written 4 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Crys13 contributionsThis shopping center was clean, had good seating, and a great selection of stores. It was a fun stop just walking distance from our resort. We wanted to go first thing in the morning so we would have time to make it to the beach but most of the stores didn't open until 10 or later.Written 13 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Joel81679Modesto, CA49 contributionsWe stopped off here after spending the some of the morning at the Ahihi-Kinau reserve. It's much more accessible than the preserve, but the aquatic life wasn't as widespread, at least near shore. A number of snorkeling/kayak tours do stop here, though. The beach here is nice for those in the party who don't want to snorkel.Written 14 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- alaskantravelnutAnchorage620 contributionsThis is a nice beach which is more popular with locals than tourist. It is not as long as some other beaches in the area, and it is somewhat steeper. There is a short trail to the beach. Park by the porta-potty on Makena Rd. There is good shade where the trail meets the beach. Snorkeling on the south end is very good all the way to Po’olenalena Beach.Written 16 March 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Grayling7Saint Louis, MO50 contributionsA great hike along the shore, far from hotels and roads. We saw dolphins in the water and goats on the lava.Written 15 November 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- SonomamonWindsor, CA415 contributionsActually, the beach to the north, which is harder to get to.
But very nice beach, with parking lot and clean porta-potty.Written 2 October 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - prakvaid58Philadelphia, PA1 815 contributionsFirst of all.. MAKENA COVE…
PA’AKO BEACH.., SECRET COVE .. are one and the same!
It’s a well kept secret and a jewel ! A small secluded cove .. with a sandy beach flanked by lava rocks .. a magical place during sunset !
No wonder weddings are held here .. we witnessed one when we were there for sunset!
The cove is south of the big Makena beach.. drive slowly past the beach till you get to a stone wall .. just at the pedestrian crossing you will find a small gap in the wall.. enter there .., and viola!!!
Magical scene unfolds before your eyes!
Sunrise is beautiful too behind the palm trees, but sunset is gorgeous!!!Written 19 October 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - stjohnbeachloverSt. Louis, Missouri 1Â 155 contributionsThe church is set in a picturesque setting overlooking the ocean. There is a cemetary next to it with graves from long ago to some quite recent. We had heard you could spot whales from here but did not see any the day we visited.Written 9 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
