Incredible views and a great way to learn history. The observation deck and visitors center had amazing views. W you can do as little as much walking and exploring as you want.

The view was breathtaking and seeing the big horned sheep up close made it even better. They were freely roaming while kids were playing on the playground definitely a must see if you are in town.

The museum is located In the hotel on the 2nd floor. You take a long hallway to the museum. When you enter you can take a passport to get stamped along your tour. It was very well put together. Learned a lot about the dam and the town.

Nothing high tech or stunning about this museum - except for the old railroad cars with written history and the opportunity to get up inside to see for yourself. The love and dedication of the volunteers who run this little Museum was clearly apparent.

This is a nice place to visit though I’m guessing it would be better after the pandemic . There is a layout of small gauge track (I’m guessing 7-1/2”) but that was not running. For a fee there are peddle cars where you ride the tracks to the end and an actual train brings you back.

There’s construction going on near the sculptures so you can’t get very close. They are on the Nevada side across from the visitor center exit.

We visited on a hot, sunny day. We went on a short hike, but it was too hot to continue. We ended up just taking photos and driving around to the overlook for more photo ops. It is a beautiful site to see!

Curiosity got the better of us. After a short excursion to Hoover Day continued our journey north towards Las Vegas. Next stop Lake Mead National Recreational Area. Prior to departing California on our trip, the local television stations provided daily reports of drying up rivers, lakes, and pond throughout the Southwest. Lake Mead was no exception. Having been to this recreation lake on numerous occasions in the past, these reports were hard to believe. As we were in the vicinity, had to verify the situation. First stop, the Lake Mead Visitor Center, for the latest information pertaining to the Lake. This center is staffed by volunteers and rangers with a plethora of information concerning the lake. All employees were extremely helpful and assisted us with planning a short visit to this magnificent lake. Maps, brochures, and visitor permits are available. Located within the Center is an exhibition hall with a relief maps of the lake, and information pertaining to the flora and fauna that can be found in the area. I found the exhibit on local geology fascinating. A short film entitled “Life in the Desert” is enlightening. If you desire to take home a souvenir of your Lake Mead trip, a gift shop, with an abundance of book pertaining to the park, Native American art, jewelry, and crafts as well as tee shirts and other items are for sale. This Visitor Center with a large parking lot, clean restroom, and helpful staff is worth visiting. After visiting the center, ventured to Lake Mead, were we found the reports of Lake Mead drying up to be creditable. Water level is extremely low, and this one great recreational park is slowly fading away. Recreational water sports have been curtailed or no longer authorized due to the current situation. Hopefully, rain will return to this area and refill this lake.

We are Minnesota and water is our thing, but people from Nevada showcase every waterhole that they’ve got. Don’t get me wrong, Lake Mead is certainly and unbelievable body of water created by man’s damming of the Colorado River. This is a beautiful overlook of Lake Mead, the Mountains and the valley below, but not a “don’t miss it opportunity.” We were a little disappointed in the view, but loved how clean and new it is. It gives you an opportunity to regroup, take a drink, and enjoy the Hoover Dam area you are about to descend on. There are no bathrooms here, but there is a trash can. We liked it, but it’s not “out of this world.”
